Job Description

Position Summary:

The EHS Project Lead plays a pivotal role in driving environmental, health, and safety excellence throughout the expansion of two business critical food manufacturing facilities. This highly visible leadership position is responsible for shaping and executing the site safety strategy, fostering a proactive risk management culture, and ensuring full regulatory compliance from groundbreaking to project completion. Success in this role is built on strong collaboration with the Project Manager, Plant Leadership team and cross-functional teams, resulting in a lasting, positive impact on site sustainability and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs across all project phases, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Act as the primary EHS advisor to project management, delivering expert guidance on regulatory requirements, risk mitigation strategies, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and cross-functional teams to embed EHS considerations into project planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Direct comprehensive EHS risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations; develop, implement, and track corrective action plans to address identified issues.
  • Partner with the Plant EHS and Leadership Team to build broader EHS culture and capability through visible leadership and adherence to standards.
  • Maintain vigilance while in the plant and actively support/assist as needed to reinforce safe practices and EHS expectations.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on EHS performance metrics—including both leading and lagging indicators—to drive proactive improvements and accountability.
  • Ensure all project activities adhere to OSHA, EPA, and food industry EHS standards, maintaining a strong compliance posture throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain all required EHS documentation, permits, and regulatory reports; serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies.
  • Design and deliver engaging EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and stakeholders, fostering awareness and capability at every level.
  • Clearly communicate EHS expectations, policies, and procedures to all project personnel, ensuring alignment and understanding.
  • Champion a culture of safety, accountability, and environmental stewardship, setting the standard for project teams and contractors.
  • Provide timely guidance and solutions to resolve EHS issues during project execution, supporting operational continuity and risk reduction.
  • Integrate EHS principles into all aspects of project planning and execution, proactively identifying and managing health, safety, and environmental risks.
  • Enhance project efficiency by embedding EHS standards in workflows, minimizing disruptions, and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to sustainability by reducing environmental impact and promoting health and safety best practices across all activities.
  • Lead early EHS integration efforts, including feasibility assessments, risk analyses, and stakeholder consultations, to ensure robust project foundations.
  • Collaborate across departments to align objectives, share insights, and implement cohesive strategies that prioritize both project success and EHS excellence.
  • Continuously monitor EHS performance throughout the project lifecycle, utilizing audits, feedback loops, and data analysis to drive ongoing improvement.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive EHS experience, including major capital projects.
  • Demonstrated transformation leadership—championing cultural change, engagement, and organizational agility in line with Kraft Heinz’s “Dare to Do Better Every Day” and “We Own It” values.
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and food industry EHS standards, with a commitment to “Doing the Right Thing.”
  • Proven ability to “Work as a Team”—collaborating and communicating effectively across cross-functional and diverse teams.
  • Strong project management, risk assessment, and compliance skills, consistently “Simplifying the Complex” and moving with speed and agility.
  • Track record of modeling optimism, energizing others, and fostering an inclusive, accountable culture.
