Methodology
What Six Figure Work checks, what it does not, and the words we use. Rule set: us-base-v2.
What "verified" means here
On this site "verified" means exactly one thing: the employer's own published pay text was read by our rules as an annual base salary with a lower end of at least $100,000, and the listing shows the source link and the time we last checked it. It is not a guarantee of an offer, and not a guarantee that the job is still open.
What we check
- The source. The listing comes from a public job board run by the employer or an applicant-tracking system the employer uses, and we have approved reading it (see sources).
- The pay. The employer states an annual base salary in US dollars. The lower end is at least $100,000, and it is not higher than the upper end.
- The evidence. The exact pay passage or structured field is stored and shown on the job page, with how it was found.
- The scope. If pay differs by location or level, the figure is shown with the location it applies to. A role that is $120K in California and $85K elsewhere is shown as a California listing.
- The status. The role was still listed on the employer's board when we last checked. Roles not confirmed in the last 24 hours leave search.
What does not count
- Bonus, commission, equity or on-target earnings. Only base salary counts.
- Hourly pay. We never convert hourly rates to an annual figure.
- Monthly pay unless the employer states a monthly base salary (see below). Weekly, daily and other schedules are not converted.
- Non-USD currencies, with no exchange conversion.
- "Up to" ranges or "competitive" pay with no stated minimum.
- Postings that contradict themselves, for example text saying $95K while a data field says $130K. These are held back.
- Roles whose location is not clearly in the United States, including remote roles with no stated country.
Federal and monthly pay
- Federal (USAJOBS) postings: per-annum basic pay is treated as base salary. Hourly federal pay is not converted.
- Federal postings whose only hiring paths are internal to an agency (current agency employees, CTAP/ICTAP) are not listed.
- Federal postings open only to specific groups (for example federal employees, veterans, military spouses) are listed with an "Open to:" label taken from the USAJOBS hiring path, and are hidden from default search and public counts unless you choose "Include restricted federal jobs".
- Monthly base salary × 12 is shown as the annual range, always alongside the employer's own monthly figure ("Employer stated $X/month").
How we find pay
Where the board publishes pay as structured data, we read it directly. Otherwise fixed rules look for pay text in the employer's description. In some cases an AI model helps locate the passage, but the quote must then appear word for word in the stored posting, and the numbers are re-checked by fixed rules. A model cannot make a role eligible on its own.
What we do not verify
- What anyone is actually paid. A range is an advertisement, not an accepted salary, and a midpoint is not a typical salary.
- Whether the employer is genuinely hiring, how many people will be hired, or how competitive the role is.
- Total vacancies, workforce size or hiring volumes anywhere. We observe only the boards we monitor.
- Why a listing disappears. A removal does not tell us the outcome. When a listing leaves its board, we record that closure was observed on a date, and nothing more.
Freshness
Each board is re-read on a schedule, at most as often as shown on the sources page. A listing appears in search only if its source was confirmed within the last 24 hours. A failed or blocked fetch is treated as a gap in our knowledge, not as a closure.
Compliance and provenance
- We collect only publicly published job postings: applicant-tracking feeds and the federal USAJOBS API (a free registered key; public data). No logins, no CAPTCHA solving, no forged authentication, no private candidate data.
- Requests are rate-limited per host and identify us: VerifiedWorkBot/0.1, [email protected].
- Every listing shows its source link, when we first saw it and when we last checked it.
- We republish only what the employer published; we add no personal data about applicants, and we collect none.
- We follow robots.txt on employer websites; public job-feed APIs (Ashby, Greenhouse, Lever, USAJOBS) are for programmatic use, so it is not consulted there. SmartRecruiters' API disallows bots in its robots.txt; we read it anyway, by the site owner's decision (sources).
Words we use
- Advertised base range
- The base salary range the employer published.
- Observed since
- The first time our system saw the listing. It is not the employer's posting date.
- Last checked
- The last time we successfully re-confirmed the listing with its source.
- Opportunity
- One application target. If a posting has several location variants, headline counts include it once.
Corrections
If a listing looks wrong, tell the employer first and use the source link on the job page to compare. Our source list is public. Corrections: [email protected].
