POSITION SUMMARY:
The Information Architect, SharePoint is a hands-on technical individual contributor responsible for the architecture, taxonomy, information structure, and automation of Audax Private Equity's SharePoint Online environment. This role combines deep SharePoint information architecture expertise with strong scripting, development, and integration capabilities to design, build, and maintain scalable enterprise content solutions.
As the firm's subject matter expert, this individual will independently architect SharePoint environments, develop custom PowerShell scripts, implement API-based integrations, and automate document classification and lifecycle processes. The ideal candidate brings both strategic information architecture expertise and the technical ability to independently develop and implement solutions rather than relying exclusively on configuration tools or external development resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
SharePoint Information Architecture
- Own the SharePoint information architecture, including site structure, content types, column schemas, and library design.
- Serve as the technical authority on SharePoint architecture patterns, working with SPFx, CSOM, PowerShell, and the Microsoft Graph API.
- Define and enforce standards for site provisioning and structure so content is consistent and discoverable firmwide.
- Design, develop, and maintain standardized SharePoint site provisioning solutions, including automated creation of sites, libraries, content types, columns, and metadata structures.
Technical Development & Automation
- Independently write, test, troubleshoot, and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate SharePoint provisioning, metadata updates, document remediation, content migrations, and administrative processes at scale.
- Design and develop automated workflows and integrations using Power Automate, Microsoft Graph API, SharePoint REST APIs, and PnP PowerShell.
- Build and maintain integrations between SharePoint and enterprise systems, including Salesforce and other internal data platforms, to support automated deal-site provisioning, document routing, metadata synchronization, and lifecycle management.
- Develop custom technical solutions using SharePoint development frameworks and tools, including SPFx, CSOM, REST/OData, and applicable scripting or programming languages.
- Troubleshoot complex SharePoint architecture, search, metadata, and automation issues, identifying root causes and implementing scalable technical solutions.
- Evaluate opportunities to replace manual content management processes with repeatable, maintainable scripts, integrations, and automated workflows.
Taxonomy, Metadata, and Content Classification
- Own the SharePoint managed metadata term store and the firm's deal taxonomy, and maintain the RefinableString managed property mappings that make it searchable.
- Design, build, and tune the document classification pipeline across path-based tagging, filename rules, SharePoint Premium classifiers, and a residual model stage.
- Apply intelligent document processing at ingestion (OCR, extraction, form recognition) so metadata and content signals are set at creation.
- Define and maintain metadata standards and content type architecture, and drive tagging consistency across sites.
- Remediate legacy libraries at scale using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, and migration tooling to bulk-tag, reclassify, and clean existing content.
Document Lifecycle and Governance
- Automate document movement through SharePoint in line with the deal lifecycle — from Salesforce deal creation through to realized-deal archiving — applying correct metadata and site placement at each stage.
- Manage content lifecycle within SharePoint, including archival and disposition, in line with retention outcomes defined by Information Security and Microsoft Purview.
- Partner with Information Security to ensure lifecycle automation applies the sensitivity labels and retention policies those teams define.
Data Quality and Reporting
- Develop reporting on metadata completeness, classification coverage, and content health across the SharePoint environment.
- Establish operational metrics that communicate content health and classification accuracy to management.
- Maintain documentation, standards, and procedures for architecture, taxonomy, classification, and lifecycle services.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Management, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5-7+ years of experience in SharePoint Online architecture, information architecture, or enterprise content management, including substantial hands-on experience with scripting, automation, and integrations.
- Expert-level experience with SharePoint Online information architecture (site structure, content types, column schemas, library design).
- Expert-level experience with SharePoint managed metadata, term store administration, and RefinableString managed property mappings.
- Strong experience configuring and tuning SharePoint search (verticals, refiners, query rules, PnP search).
- Experience designing and implementing automated document classification and metadata tagging solutions, including rules-based approaches and intelligent document processing technologies. Experience with SharePoint Premium/Syntex is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated hands-on PowerShell development experience, including independently writing, debugging, and maintaining original scripts for SharePoint Online administration, automated provisioning, bulk metadata updates, content remediation, and migrations. Candidates must have experience developing their own scripts rather than solely executing or modifying existing scripts.
- Strong hands-on experience developing SharePoint automation and integrations using Microsoft Graph API, Power Automate, and PnP PowerShell.
- Working knowledge of SharePoint development technologies, including SPFx, CSOM, REST/OData, and PnP frameworks, with the ability to troubleshoot and modify technical solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives with data, IT, and security teams while remaining hands-on technically, and to operate with a high degree of autonomy as the firm's sole SME in this domain.
PREFERRED COMPETENCIES:
- Experience with additional programming and data technologies, such as Python, C#, SQL, or Snowflake, to support enterprise integrations, data processing, and automation.
- Experience leading a large-scale SharePoint migration or re-architecture using ShareGate, Metalogix, or comparable tooling.
- Experience preparing SharePoint content for enterprise search or GenAI retrieval (semantic index / RAG readiness, Copilot enablement).
- Experience in financial services, private equity, or another regulated, information-sensitive environment.
- Relevant Microsoft certification (e.g., MS-102: Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert, or SC-100: Cybersecurity Architect Expert).
