About this job
Atomic Machines is building the Matter Compiler™, the first in a new class of AI-native, all-digital manufacturing systems that build working machines directly from code. The Matter Compiler (MC) is aimed at micro-machines: motors and gears the size of a grain of sand, robots small enough to work inside the body, cooling built directly into the chips that run AI, and the many devices like them that have been waiting on a way to build them. Its first product is PrimeSwitch™, an electromechanical power relay the size of a button battery that carries 150 amps continuous current and opens in 50 microseconds, about a thousand times faster than a conventional contactor. Founded by Jeff Holden — serial entrepreneur, ex-Amazon SVP and Uber’s first Chief Product Officer — the company has raised $250 million to date.
Atomic Machines is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with offices in Emeryville and Santa Clara.
About The Role:
We’ve built technology that changes how things get made, and now we need someone to help the world understand it. You’ll evolve the brand foundation we’ve established into a sharper identity and a stronger presence, establishing Atomic Machines as a recognized leader in Physical AI and the future of manufacturing.
This is a director-level role with genuine ownership and authority. You’ll set our marketing vision and lead its execution, working as fluently with the engineers behind the technology as with the audiences who need to understand it.
What You’ll Do:
- Brand identity and consistency. Develop our brand and ensure it comes through consistently across our website, presentations, content, events, and other external communications.
- Narrative and messaging. Sharpen how we describe Atomic Machines, our technology, and our ambitions. Establish a clear, consistent voice that makes complex technology compelling and credible.
- Digital presence. Own our website and social channels, developing content and experiences that expand our reach and deepen engagement with relevant audiences.
- Content and thought leadership. Drive blogs, white papers, presentations, and other written materials, working with technical experts and company leadership to communicate substantive ideas.
- Conferences, exhibitions, and speaking opportunities. Proactively identify and pursue the right industry engagements. Lead our presence at trade shows and conferences, secure speaking opportunities, and help prepare compelling talks.
- PR and media relations. Own public relations and media engagement end to end, including the direction and management of external agencies.
- Marketing priorities and execution. Set the plan, manage the marketing budget and external partners, and measure how our activities support brand recognition, audience engagement, and commercial conversations.
How You’ll Work:
You’ll initially deliver through agencies and freelancers, with no internal direct reports. This is a hands-on role: you should be comfortable writing, shaping content, directing creative work, and driving projects to completion.
You’ll have substantial scope to choose priorities, recommend investments, and hold external partners accountable for the quality and timeliness of their work. Over time, you’ll help determine where to build internal capability and grow the marketing function.
Product ownership sits elsewhere. You’ll partner closely with technical, product, and commercial leaders to ensure our external communications accurately reflect our technology, capabilities, and business priorities.
What You’ll Need:
- 15 + years of experience in brand, content, or communications, ideally in technology or deep tech.
- Demonstrated success in brand, content, and communications for a technology business.
- Strong writing skills and editorial judgment, with the ability to turn complex technical ideas into stories people understand and remember.
- Experience developing a consistent brand across digital channels, presentations, content, and industry events.
- The ability to direct agencies, freelancers, and creative partners while remaining personally involved in the work.
- Sound judgment about which audiences, messages, and opportunities deserve attention.
- The initiative and organization to set priorities, work independently, and deliver in a growing company.
- Curiosity about Physical AI, advanced manufacturing, and the technology behind Atomic Machines.
- Proven ability to lead through hands-on execution, sound judgment, and ownership of outcomes rather than relying on a large team or established infrastructure.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A technical background or experience working closely with engineering teams is a plus.
What Success Looks Like:
A sharper, more consistent brand. Stronger digital and industry presence. A steady flow of credible, compelling content. And growing recognition of Atomic Machines and its potential to transform manufacturing.
The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.
Salary Range
$210,000—$250,000 USD
