About this job

About the Role:

Grade Level (for internal use):

13

The Team

Credit Ratings is an integral part of S&P Global's Global Ratings Services, bringing together a diverse group of more than 1,400 analysts across key financial centers worldwide. The Public Finance practice delivers credit opinions on public-sector issuers — including states and provinces, local governments, public agencies, not-for-profit entities, and infrastructure-related municipal issuers — translating economic trends, revenue stability, governance, and long-term liabilities into transparent views that help communities finance essential services.

The Affordable Housing group covers a diverse array of complex quasi-governmental and mission-driven non-profit entities across the sector — including Housing Finance Agencies, Community Development Financial Institutions, Public Housing Authorities, and non-profit developers — as well as a variety of transaction-level ratings secured by affordable multifamily rental housing, including pooled securitizations and those benefiting from federal government credit enhancement.

Responsibilities and Impact

Impact

This role offers a meaningful opportunity to shape credit analysis and market understanding across one of the most socially significant and complex segments of the public finance market. As Director, the role carries responsibility for managing a diverse portfolio of affordable housing credits, driving analytical excellence, and coaching and mentoring a team of analysts — with direct impact on the credit opinions that housing agencies, investors, and market participants rely on. The Director also serves as an external voice for the Affordable Housing practice, representing the group at industry events, webcasts, and conferences.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop analysts, building credit expertise and the capability to effectively leverage digital and AI-enabled tools.
  • Drive adoption of modern analytical practices by embedding generative AI, advanced analytics, and automation into monitoring, drafting, research, and workflow execution — improving speed, consistency, and analytical depth while preserving human judgment and accountability.

Core Analytical & Delivery

  • Lead high-quality credit and capital markets analysis across assigned issuers and sectors, delivering forward-looking insights that support ratings, monitoring activities, risk assessments, and rating committee discussions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Translate issuer and sector developments into clear, decision-ready analytical perspectives, integrating scenario analysis and forward-looking risk considerations.
  • Identify and implement workflow improvements in partnership with Data, Technology, Compliance, In-Business Control, and Methodology teams to scale best practices.

Stakeholder & Market Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with issuers, investors, and market participants through credible, insight-led engagement.
  • Communicate complex, data-informed analysis clearly while maintaining analytical independence and objectivity.
  • Represent the Affordable Housing practice in externally facing contexts, including industry webcasts, conferences, and sector events.

Risk Management and Operating

  • Ensure strong analytical execution with clear documentation, high-quality outputs, and adherence to governance and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain oversight of portfolio risk to identify and escalate emerging risks early.
  • Apply disciplined oversight to the use of AI and automated outputs, ensuring transparency, explainability, and appropriate controls are in place.

  • Strong credit analysis expertise, with the ability to deliver high-quality, forward-looking analytical output at pace across a complex and diverse portfolio.
  • Experience mentoring or managing analysts, with a demonstrated ability to build team capability and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, including the adoption of AI and automation.
  • Practical experience using generative AI, advanced data analytics, or automation tools to enhance research, monitoring, and workflow efficiency while maintaining strong validation and analytical discipline.
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to present complex analytical insights clearly and credibly to issuers, investors, and market participants while maintaining analytical independence.
  • Disciplined approach to portfolio risk oversight, with the ability to identify emerging risks early, escalate appropriately, and operate within established governance frameworks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions, including serving as a technical resource and guide for junior analysts in an evolving technological landscape.
  • Confidence representing the Affordable Housing practice in external settings, including industry events, webcasts, and conferences.
