Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue National Security (BNS), where our focus is the design, development, and delivery of launch and spacecraft systems for national security missions. Through Blue Ring, our all-in-one, high-powered hybrid solar-electric and chemical-propelled spacecraft, we provide unmatched mission maneuverability, versatility, and capacity at dramatically lower-profile costs.

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Developer to join our Avionics Design team within the Core Systems and Components group. • Drive work across all phases of the software development lifecycle — from requirements and architecture through implementation, code review, verification, and deployment
  • Develop low-level drivers and firmware for embedded hardware platforms
  • Support hardware bring-up, debugging, and verification activities
  • Contribute to software architecture, design reviews, and documentation
  • Develop and execute software verification and validation plans, including unit, integration, and automated regression tests
  • Ensure software development adheres to applicable standards

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded software development
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Strong understanding of hardware/software interfaces, including SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, and similar protocols
  • Experience working with FPGA interfaces and register-level hardware integration
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle and version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency required

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Aerospace or safety-critical system development experience.
  • Experience with communications protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet).
  • Firmware development for custom hardware platforms.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation.
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevOps and continuous integration practices.
