Cutler Advisors is a boutique accounting and advisory practice serving high-net-worth clients with personalized tax planning and financial structuring. The team focuses on helping clients address complex financial challenges, reduce tax exposure, and build and preserve long-term wealth. As a Current member firm, Cutler Advisors pairs close client relationships with broader platform resources.

About the role

The Financial Statements Manager leads accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of Cutler Advisors clients. This hands-on manager oversees month-end close, financial statement preparation, and management reporting; reviews staff work; and helps clients understand their financial results. The role is accountable for accurate, timely deliverables, clear supporting documentation, and consistent application of firm quality standards.

The manager supervises one existing team member and may coordinate additional global delivery support as the team develops. The role combines technical accounting judgment with client relationship management, work planning, and staff development.

Key responsibilities

Plan and manage close and reporting engagements, setting client expectations, assigning work, and monitoring deadlines, staffing, and open items.

Prepare and review financial statements and management reporting packages, including balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow statements, and supporting schedules. Coordinate final release and any required sign-off through firm-approved review and approval procedures.

Review reconciliations, journal entries, and workpapers for accuracy, completeness, and support for accounting conclusions. Resolve review comments and ensure statements tie to underlying records.

Investigate discrepancies and complex accounting matters, including accruals, revenue recognition, capitalization, and multi-entity activity. Document conclusions and escalate matters requiring additional technical guidance.

Serve as a primary client contact for accounting and reporting matters. Obtain needed information, explain variances and financial results, and communicate issues or scope changes promptly.

Delegate, coach, and review team members’ work. Provide performance feedback and development guidance, manage capacity, and coordinate global delivery resources when assigned.

Monitor engagement scope, hours, quality, and delivery risks. Recommend corrective action early and coordinate with Tax, Operations, and other firm teams as needed.

Improve close checklists, workpaper templates, reporting packages, and accounting workflows to strengthen consistency and reduce rework.

Qualifications

6+ years of accounting experience, including month-end close and financial reporting; public accounting or outsourced accounting experience preferred.

Prior experience leading teams, reviewing staff work, and managing multiple client engagements or reporting deadlines.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.

CPA required.

Strong knowledge of accounting principles, reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting workpapers, with the judgment to resolve or appropriately escalate complex matters.

Clear client-facing communication skills and the ability to explain accounting issues and financial results to non-technical audiences.

Proficiency with spreadsheets and accounting systems; experience with platforms such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or NetSuite and reporting tools preferred.

Tools and workflow

Maintain close calendars, client deliverable trackers, and information-request logs showing deadlines, ownership, dependencies, and unresolved items.

Use reconciliation schedules, journal-entry support, and statement tie-outs to maintain a clear review trail from source records to final reporting.

Prepare and review budget-versus-actual analysis and variance commentary, documenting explanations and items requiring follow-up.

Track review notes, rework trends, engagement hours, and team capacity to improve quality, workload planning, and delivery.

Success expectations

Client close and reporting deliverables are accurate, well supported, and completed on time with minimal rework.

Clients receive clear communication and useful explanations of financial results; missing information, risks, and scope changes are addressed early.

Team members receive clear priorities, timely feedback, and development opportunities, with workloads aligned to capacity.

Accounting conclusions and approvals are documented, and repeatable workflows improve consistency and efficiency.
