About this job
🏥 About Sailor Health
For most older adults, healthcare doesn’t fail in one place—it fails across many. Mental health, physical health, medications, and day-to-day realities all interact, but the system treats them separately. The result is confusion, missed care, and worsening outcomes.
Sailor Health is building a new model of care for older adults that brings the mind and the body together. We combine healthcare advocacy, behavioral health, and wellness classes to help patients and families understand what’s going on and what to do next. By taking a more holistic and preventative approach, we aim to catch issues earlier, reduce avoidable crises, and keep patients in their homes instead of the hospital.
⭐ About the Role
Location: Remote – US based
Sailor’s physicians are the clinical gateway for patients navigating chronic conditions and complex care needs. Through telehealth visits, they assess the full medical picture and partner with healthcare advocates to build care plans patients can actually follow. While our therapists lead the work on the mind, our physicians lead the clinical perspective on the body.
As Healthcare Advocacy - Clinical Director, you will lead this physician group. You will shape what our physicians do, how they do it, and how we scale it while keeping the quality bar high. You will own physician hiring and onboarding, run day-to-day clinical operations, build the care model and protocols that make the advocacy program work, and be the person our physicians turn to when a case gets hard.
This is a builder’s role. You will be one of the first clinical leaders at Sailor and you will have a direct hand in how the program grows from a small team today to a much larger one over the next year. We’re looking for someone who is still a strong clinician, gets energy from building systems, is comfortable with ambiguity, and wants to help create something from the ground up.
💻 Your Key Responsibilities
Lead the physician team: Run day-to-day clinical leadership for our telehealth physicians serving Medicare patients with chronic and complex conditions, and be the escalation point for hard cases
Hire, onboard, and train physicians at scale: Own physician recruiting with our Talent team, set the hiring bar, and build the onboarding program that gets new doctors productive fast
Build the care model for advocacy: Develop the workflows, pathways, and protocols for how physicians assess patients and partner with advocates on care plans
Own clinical quality and compliance: Run QA and QI programs across visits and documentation, and write the policies that keep us compliant across states
Measure and partner across the company: Define physician KPIs with our Data team, coach from the numbers, and turn clinical needs into priorities for Product, Growth, and Care Ops
✅ What We’re Looking For
Licensed and board certified: Active, unrestricted medical license with board certification in internal medicine, family medicine, or geriatrics (Ideally licensed in 30+ states)
A proven physician leader: 3+ years managing other physicians as a medical director or similar, with a track record of building and developing clinical teams
Still loves seeing patients: 5+ years of direct patient care, ideally with older adults, and excited to keep a portion of your time dedicated to patient visits
Thrives in ambiguity: Comfortable making decisions without a playbook, moving fast, and changing course when the evidence says so
Clear communicator: Can translate clinical judgment for non-clinical partners and bring teams along without pulling rank
Startup or digital health experience is a plus: Prior time at an early stage company or virtual care organization helps, and comfort working autonomously is a must
