About this job

Location: Waltham, MA (hybrid)

ERGO NEXT’s mission is to help entrepreneurs thrive. We’re doing that by building the only technology-led, full-stack provider of small business insurance in the industry, taking on the entire value chain and transforming the customer experience.

Simply put, wherever you find small businesses, you’ll find ERGO NEXT.

Since 2016, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of small business customers across the United States get fast, customized and affordable coverage. We’re backed by industry leaders in insurance and tech, and we still have room to grow — that’s where you come in.

We are growing fast and looking for an actuary who wants to help shape how we manage our product portfolio, not just analyze it.

You will have real autonomy and the latitude to act on your expertise as a trusted partner to our insurance product managers, bringing sound recommendations to leadership backed by rigorous analysis. You will be close to the business day to day, with a clear view of where the line stands and where it is headed, and a direct role in the decisions that shape its growth and profitability.

What You’ll Do:

  • Be the #1 subject matter expert at Next related to the pricing of the target product offerings
  • Build and enhance actuarial methodologies around loss ratio forecast, insurance analytics, and P&L management
  • Partner with Insurance Product Managers to drive future product developments
  • Build go-to-market predictive models in Akur8, perform impact analyses, and support product filings
  • Perform competitor and market research
  • Partner with data science and data engineering to enable future-proof data architecture
  • Deliver actuarially sound recommendations to senior management
  • Provide ad hoc support to other business partners, including but not limited to reinsurance, finance, distribution, claims, and growth teams.

What You Need:

  • FCAS preferred, ACAS accepted
  • 6+ years of actuarial experience; property & casualty insurance and product management experience preferred
  • Accountability and pride in own work product: instill confidence in leadership
  • Communication and collaboration: work effectively with cross functional partners
  • Gritty, self-driven mindset: embrace challenges and are excited about unexplored possibilities
  • Intellectual curiosity: dig deep and solve complex business problems
  • Proactive mindset: identify business needs and drive solutions to meet them
  • Expertise with some or all of the following software: Tableau, SQL, Python, MS Office, Google Suite, Akur8
