About this job

Application close date:

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Lunar Permanence

Define and deliver embedded software verification across the Core Avionics team's product portfolio within Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit. Build the strategy, test infrastructure and automation that turn software requirements into repeatable tests and traceable evidence for software releases, supporting Blue Moon landers and related products, including those supporting the Human Landing System (HLS) program.

Own the verification capability from processor-in-the-loop (PIL) setup and maintenance through automated deployment, test execution and evidence delivery. Work with the Design Assurance and Certification (DA&C) team, which provides Systems Engineering, and the VTB team responsible for the integrated test environment. PIL capabilities may be hosted within the VTB; this role owns their configuration, readiness and use for software verification.

Remain hands-on in software development, hardware integration and debugging. Architect reusable verification frameworks, simulate sensor and actuator interfaces, and own the verification scripts, test files and resulting reports. Apply automation and AI-assisted engineering to accelerate verification while producing reliable, reviewable results. Establish the practices and capabilities that will support a growing verification team as the role evolves.

Your work will advance Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth.

Special Mentions

  • Location: Kent, WA. This position is based in Kent to support hands-on integration, configuration and maintenance of verification environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own verification strategy and delivery across the team's embedded software products. Select appropriate testing, analysis and review methods, define requirements coverage and acceptance criteria, and plan regression and formal verification campaigns. Define test matrices across hardware variants, software releases and operating configurations.
  • Architect, develop and maintain reusable verification frameworks and tools across products, including hardware-interface adapters, test fixtures, test-data handling and result processing. Apply software design, code review and testing practices to the verification infrastructure itself.
  • Work with DA&C and software, controls and hardware engineers to improve testability, resolve requirements ambiguities and develop nominal, boundary-condition, startup, mode-transition, timing, stress and fault-response scenarios. Incorporate verification into requirements, design and code reviews as features are developed.
  • Lead PIL setup, configuration, commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting, including capabilities integrated into the VTB. Establish repeatable setup, readiness checks and reset procedures, and coordinate hardware availability, interface changes and shared test resources with the VTB team.
  • Learn, configure and integrate emulation systems and data acquisition systems with hardware and controls engineers. Develop interface software and test configurations to stimulate control-card inputs, capture outputs, reproduce sensor and actuator behavior, and support closed-loop scenarios and controlled fault injection. Account for electrical characteristics, signal scaling, timing and synchronization.
  • Develop software emulators and mocks to support verification before target hardware is available. Reuse scenarios across software-in-the-loop (SIL), PIL and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments where appropriate. Validate simulation and I/O fidelity against interface specifications and reference measurements, and establish confidence in test equipment and supporting tools before using their results as verification evidence.
  • Automate software deployment, environment configuration, test execution, data collection and report generation. Integrate checks before code changes are merged, scheduled hardware regression and formal verification campaigns into continuous integration and release workflows.
  • Evaluate and apply AI-assisted tools and coding agents to accelerate test-case and script development, log analysis, failure triage and report preparation. Validate generated test logic and expected results against requirements, preserve human review and configuration control, and ground reports in recorded test data. Measure improvements in coverage, turnaround time and output quality.
  • Own, author, review and maintain verification scripts, test files, procedures, vectors, expected results, configurations and simulation assets. Derive expected results from requirements and interface specifications, and control revisions and baselines so results can be reproduced and assessed against the software and environment tested.
  • Deliver verification reports and evidence packages with traceability from requirements to tests and results. Preserve software-build identifiers, test-asset revisions, environment configurations, as-run records, raw data and discrepancies, and document coverage gaps and unresolved anomalies for release decisions.
  • Work with DA&C to apply program-specific verification processes, including applicable NASA NPR 7150.2 requirements, and deliver evidence for test-readiness, certification and release reviews.
  • Lead root-cause investigations, distinguish software defects from test-script, simulation and equipment issues, and verify corrective actions. Convert resolved defects into regression tests and improve automation reliability through test isolation, intermittent-failure investigation and useful failure diagnostics.
  • Track requirements coverage, unresolved anomalies, test-environment availability and execution time. Communicate verification readiness, evidence gaps and technical risks to engineering stakeholders.
  • Establish reusable verification practices across products, lead technical reviews, mentor engineers and coordinate dependencies across teams. Identify capability and staffing needs and help build the verification team as it expands.
