About this job

Job Description Summary

Join the GE Wind Offshore MCU Department, responsible for defining the offshore Main Component Update (MCU) strategy for wind turbine components and providing the methods, transport, tools, and workforce for GE Wind Offshore projects. The MCU service covers all offshore activities, from vessel load-out of the installation/operations vessel through completion of mechanical and electrical operations.

As the Offshore MCU Project Engineering Lead, you will play a strategic role on the project — first managing the project engineering team for MCU and overseeing engineering across all offshore wind farms for Haliade 150 and Haliade-X, working in close interface with the installation vessel supplier, and subsequently overseeing the offshore wind turbine MCU scope.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Tender Phase

  • Prepare offshore MCU planning and cost estimates for the MCU package
  • Investigate MCU feasibility from an engineering standpoint against vessels available on the market
  • Perform metocean analysis and determine weather-related downtime for a given tender
  • Maintain standard tender documentation
  • Develop guidelines and standards for offshore operations
  • Review and comment on lifting plans and rigging drawings
  • Prepare lifting sketches to support bids
  • Collaborate with marine contractors on preliminary lifting plans and deck layouts

Preparation Phase

  • Review and approve lifting plans, MCU manuals, and method statements prepared by the project MCU team covering tower pre-assembly, WTG component load-out, and offshore operations
  • Collaborate with the Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS), customer, and MCU contractor on plan development, sea-fastening design, and offshore operations sequencing
  • Ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) are maintained in GE's ServiceMax digital document management system
  • Review and validate lifting plans
  • Assign deck layout engineering to the MCU contractor
  • Prepare equipment lists and bills of materials needed for package execution
  • Coordinate with Sourcing on procurement and mobilization of tooling and spare parts
  • Ensure all MCU tools are ready on schedule
  • Support the MCU Package Manager in preparing the scope of work for MCU labor contracts
  • Prepare pre-operation HAZID sessions with EHS

Offshore Execution

  • Ensure the developed MCU strategy is applied and strictly followed offshore
  • Provide technical support to offshore construction managers
  • Validate integration of sea-fastening and grillage, as well as as-built deck layout
  • Anticipate obstacles to the MCU sequence and organize back-office/project team support
  • Revise, update, or validate MCU documentation as needed during offshore installation
  • Promote GE's EHS culture throughout documentation preparation and operational support

Scope & Working Relationships

  • Reports project status to the MCU Package Manager; hierarchically integrated into the MCU Operations department
  • Applies back-office standards and guidelines to the project, adapting to project schedule while providing clients with accurate, specific documentation
  • Develops lifting plans and WTG MCU manuals in line with GE safety standards, offshore wind industry standards, and local regulations
  • Produces progress reports on MCU interfaces with marine subcontractors, identifying engineering solutions that satisfy offshore performance needs
  • Supervises a team of engineers and drafters covering offshore MCUs — heavy lifts, sea-fastening, and wind turbine component assembly manuals
  • Monitors hours spent on technical studies, reports to the MCU Package Manager and MCU service, and reviews/sizes the engineering budget and team accordingly
  • Participates in individual engineering reviews and sets priorities with department managers
  • Applies package strategy defined by the back-office to meet client needs for execution deliverables
  • Serves as a key technical point of contact with the client, Marine Warranty Surveyor, and other third parties
  • Manages technical interfaces with the client and other project subcontractors to support contract execution

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in wind energy, construction, or oil and gas industry/operations
  • Experience in offshore operations and Transport & Installation (T&I) engineering within large EPCI or T&I contracts

Work Arrangement and Location

  • Primary Location: Other, NY, US
  • Role will require offshore mobilization/support as needed during installation campaigns
