About this job

Job Description Summary

Are you a hands-on EHS professional who thrives in a production environment? This is a boots-on-the-ground role for someone who knows the reality of a shop floor—where the safety of 300+ people depends on your ability to spot hazards, manage industrial risks, and coach production teams on the line. If you have a deep background in heavy manufacturing and want to build a culture of safety from the ground up, we want to talk.

This role reports to the Plant Leader and will lead a team of 4 direct employees. It will be aligned to the overall Global Value Stream EHS organization as well. The role guides the Pensacola generator plant EHS projects, and ways of working. You will drive quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into plant priorities. The role is guided by professional EHS practices and policies. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Active Shop Floor Leadership: Spend the majority of your time in the plant manufacturing floor. You will be the go-to person for our production teams to ensure safe work practices are being followed every shift.
  • Manage Heavy Industrial Risks: Take ownership of critical manufacturing hazards, including overhead crane/rigging operations, machine guarding, high-voltage test areas, forklift/pedestrian traffic management, and industrial chemical storage.
  • Drive Proactive Safety: Move beyond reactive compliance. Use your manufacturing expertise to identify "at-risk" behaviors and conditions before an incident occurs.
  • Ensure Operational Compliance: Manage the day-to-day requirements of OSHA and EPA regulations in a heavy industrial setting. Handle permits, audits, and reporting with precision.
  • Practical Training & Coaching: Ensure production staff are fully competent. Deliver training that is relevant to the shop floor—not just "classroom style"—to ensure our operators understand the "why" behind the rules.
  • Digital Tools for the Shop Floor: Use tools like Benchmark Gensuite to track daily safety performance, trend incidents, and drive corrective actions that stick.
  • Solve Hardware/Process Problems: Work directly with plant engineering and maintenance teams to design safer work cells and integrate safety into our production equipment and workflows.
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the site-specific EHS roadmap aligned with global GE Vernova standards. Act as a key advisor to the Plant Leader on all safety-related risks and operational impacts.
  • Data-Driven Improvement: Manage site EHS KPIs. Analyze incident trends and audit results to drive "Read Across" improvements and corrective actions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (OR a High School Diploma / GED with at least 6 years of direct, on-the-floor EHS leadership experience in a manufacturing environment).
  • Proven technical experience with manufacturing-specific safety regulations (OSHA 1910 focus).

Desired Characteristics

What We’re Looking For:

  • Manufacturing "Street Cred": You speak the language of the floor. You understand how production lines work and know how to integrate safety without creating unnecessary bottlenecks.
  • Risk-Spotter: You have a sharp eye for industrial hazards—from mechanical pinch points to electrical safety—and you know the most effective ways to mitigate them.
  • Technical Problem Solver: You can translate safety data into mechanical or process-based solutions that production supervisors and operators can easily implement.
  • Influencer: You can earn the respect of shop floor leads and operators through consistent presence, technical competence, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
