About this job

About the Role

A person’s first experience with Chime should make it easy to see what’s possible—and take the next step. We’re looking for a Principal Product Designer to shape how people discover Chime, become members, and start building a lasting relationship with our products.

You’ll lead design across acquisition, onboarding, conversion, and funding, bringing exceptional visual craft to moments that turn interest into action. The opportunity is to make every interaction feel clear, compelling, and connected, helping members find value while driving meaningful business growth.

We’re looking for a designer with deep consumer mobile experience who pairs strong product instincts with outstanding execution. You’ll set an ambitious design direction, explore and test new ideas, and stay close to the details that make an experience feel effortless.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Lead design across the growth journey, from a prospective member’s first interaction with Chime through onboarding, funding, and early engagement.
  • Create polished mobile experiences with exceptional attention to typography, layout, visual hierarchy, interaction, and motion.
  • Turn complex steps into intuitive experiences that build confidence and help members move forward.
  • Partner with product, engineering, research, marketing, and content design to identify opportunities and deliver cohesive experiences.
  • Develop compelling concepts and prototypes, using research and experimentation to understand what resonates and why.
  • Balance improvements to existing journeys with bold ideas that create new opportunities for growth.
  • Use product data and member feedback to improve conversion and activation while maintaining a high bar for clarity, accessibility, and trust.
  • Help growth experiences feel distinctly Chime, strengthening consistency between our brand and product.
  • Raise the quality of work across the team through thoughtful critique, mentorship, and hands-on collaboration.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • Deep experience designing consumer mobile products, with a portfolio that demonstrates exceptional visual craft and shipped work.
  • A track record of leading complex design initiatives as a senior individual contributor, from defining the opportunity through launch and iteration.
  • Experience designing growth journeys such as acquisition, onboarding, activation, conversion, or engagement, with measurable results.
  • Strong interaction design skills and the ability to make multistep experiences feel simple, intuitive, and engaging.
  • The range to establish a compelling vision and execute the details required to bring it to life.
  • Experience combining research, experimentation, and product data with strong design judgment.
  • The ability to influence across disciplines, explain your decisions clearly, and help teams navigate tradeoffs.
  • A commitment to building accessible experiences that earn member trust.
  • Experience in fintech or financial services is a plus, but is not required.
