About this job

COMPANY OVERVIEW

We exist to make food the world loves. But we do more than that. Our company is a place that prioritizes being a force for good, a place to expand learning, explore new perspectives and reimagine new possibilities, every day. We look for people who want to bring their best — bold thinkers with big hearts who challenge one another and grow together. Because becoming the undisputed leader in food means surrounding ourselves with people who are hungry for what’s next.

JOB OVERVIEW

We’re passionate about food and driven by data. Technology and analytics play a critical role in how we grow iconic brands and make better business decisions across General Mills. The Business Intelligence & Analytics team delivers enterprise analytics capabilities across the company, building dashboards, AI-enabled analytics experiences, and decision-support products in partnership with business, data engineering, and data science teams.

The Principal UX/UI Designer – Analytics Products will serve as the enterprise design expert for analytics experiences at General Mills. This role owns the overall user experience for analytics products across both traditional BI and emerging AI-enabled workflows, helping define how dashboards, guided analytics, conversational experiences, AI summarization, and insight-to-action journeys fit together into a coherent and effective user experience. This person will shape design standards, drive product experience strategy, and partner across product, engineering, BI, and data science to ensure analytics products are intuitive, trustworthy, scalable, and aligned to how users actually make decisions.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Own the end-to-end experience strategy, UX, and UI design for analytics products, including dashboards, self-service analytics, AI-assisted summarization, conversational analytics, and insight exploration workflows.
  • Define how AI and traditional analytics experiences work together, including when users should explore data directly, ask questions in natural language, review AI-generated outputs, and move into deeper analysis or action-taking workflows.
  • Design intuitive, elegant workflows for complex, information-dense enterprise experiences, simplifying technical concepts and reducing friction for business users.
  • Create templates and reusable design patterns and standards for analytics UX, including navigation, data visualization, information architecture, conversational patterns, prompt interactions, feedback states, trust indicators, and error handling.
  • Partner closely with product managers, BI leaders, engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to translate analytics and AI capabilities into useful, usable product experiences.
  • Lead user discovery, workflow mapping, prototyping, usability testing, and iterative refinement to ensure analytics products solve real user problems and fit naturally into day-to-day decision-making.
  • Shape the experience strategy for AI-enabled analytics, with emphasis on trust, explainability, transparency, confidence states, human-in-the-loop interactions, and responsible presentation of AI-generated insights.
  • Design some in-experience guardrails to support responsible user actions stemming from AI for BI interactions.
  • Drive alignment between user needs, product vision, and enterprise standards by influencing roadmaps, prioritization, and cross-functional design decisions.
  • Create and evolve design-system guidance for analytics products so teams can scale high-quality experiences consistently across platforms and use cases.
  • Serve as the internal thought leader on design for analytics products, advising teams on best practices in UX, UI, workflow design, and user-centered product development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Product Design, UX/UI Design, Interaction Design, Psychology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in UX, UI, product design, or interaction design, with increasing responsibility for complex digital products.
  • Demonstrated expertise designing analytics, dashboard, data visualization, or other data-rich product experiences.
  • Familiarity with conversational analytics, natural-language querying, AI summarization, or agent-assisted workflow patterns.
  • Experience designing AI-enabled, conversational, assistive, or adaptive product experiences.
  • Proven ability to simplify complex workflows and design intuitive user experiences for information-dense products.
  • Deep proficiency in Figma (or similar technology), wireframing, prototyping, interaction design, and modern design-system practices.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-influence skills, including the ability to explain design rationale clearly and influence without direct authority while partnering effectively with internal product managers, engineering, and technical stakeholders to ensure high-quality product experiences.
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong visual craft, systems thinking, workflow design, and measurable product impact.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of relevant experience across product design, enterprise UX, analytics products, or adjacent digital product roles.
  • Strong experience designing enterprise software, SaaS products, internal tools, or other workflow-heavy applications with AI-enabled, conversational, assistive, or adaptive product tools.
  • Experience building or scaling enterprise design systems and reusable UX standards across multiple products or teams.
  • Strong user research and usability-testing background, especially for enterprise or internal products with complex workflows.
  • Familiarity with front-end development concepts and technical constraints that influence digital product design decisions.
  • Experience working in a matrixed, global enterprise environment.
  • Experience in analytics, BI, data platforms, semantic layers, governed datasets, or AI-for-BI environments.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION
