About this job
Discord has a highly engaged community of millions of daily active users who use the platform for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does: play video games. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming, and we are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to hang out before, during, and after playing games.
Discord's Public Policy team builds and maintains relationships with the policymakers, regulators, civil society organizations, academics, and industry partners who shape the future of online platforms. We help these stakeholders understand how Discord works and how we approach safety and privacy, and we bring their perspectives back to inform how Discord builds products and policies.
In this role, you'll help lead Discord's external engagement strategy, building lasting partnerships with civil society, industry groups, and other stakeholders around the world. You'll manage our external partnerships portfolio, run our program for policymakers and other stakeholders visiting Discord's San Francisco headquarters, and lead special projects that advance the team's global priorities. You'll also keep the team running smoothly by owning budgets and operational projects. This person will report to the Head of Public Policy, Americas.
What You'll Be Doing
- Help shape and execute a global external affairs strategy that strengthens Discord's relationships and reputation with policymakers, regulators, civil society, academics, and industry partners
- Build and manage a portfolio of strategic partnerships, making sure each one advances clear policy and business objectives
- Measure the impact of partnerships and engagements, and report outcomes to team and company leadership
- Own Discord's headquarters visit program for policymakers, government officials, and other key stakeholders
- Lead special projects for the Public Policy team, such as external events, policy research initiatives, and cross-regional campaigns
- Develop external-facing materials such as briefing books, talking points, presentations, partnership proposals, and event programming
- Own the Public Policy team's budgets and related operational projects
What you should have
- 5+ years of experience in public policy, public affairs, and/or civil society partnerships
- Experience owning and executing a multi-year public affairs or partnership program
- Experience building and managing partnerships with civil society, academic experts, and industry leaders across multiple regions
- A track record of planning and executing high-level visits, delegations, or events for senior government officials and executives
- Familiarity with technology policy issues
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, especially executive briefings, and the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical audiences
- Strong project management skills and the judgment to juggle multiple workstreams, stakeholders, and deadlines
