POSITION SUMMARY

As part of a small number of IT Directors accountable for all resort technology across Alterra Mountain Company, this Regional IT Director provides direct technical and managerial leadership for the IT teams at every destination within an assigned region.

Reporting to the Vice President, IT Resort Operations, this role owns the performance, cost, and reliability of the technology that keeps our resorts running, and serves as the senior IT partner to each resort's President and COO. This role is responsible for translating business strategy into technology outcomes while representing resort needs within Alterra's enterprise IT organization and to Alterra's Shared Services organization.

Operating across multiple sites, the Director sets direction across the four pillars of resort technology: IT Operations, Infrastructure, System Administration, and Business Application Management. This role directly leads a distributed regional team of on-site technicians and specialists together with regionalized systems and network administrators. The Director is accountable for regional operating and capital budgets and for the successful integration of newly acquired resorts. Success is measured in stability, resiliency, operational efficiency, and business partnership at scale.

Location: This Regional IT Director will oversee our East Region and can be based at either Stratton Mountain Resort or Sugarbush Resort in Vermont.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Strategic & Organizational Leadership

  • Set the technology vision and multi-year roadmap for the region and chair resort IT Steering Committees to align technology investment with each resort's business strategy.
  • Serve as the senior technology advisor to resort Presidents and COOs, identifying opportunities for business-process improvement, operational efficiency, and productivity.
  • Represent the region in OneIT executive strategy, shaping enterprise standards and common platforms while advocating for resort needs.
  • Lead enterprise initiatives across the region, directing regional teams to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes at every resort.

Operations & Service Delivery

  • Own operational performance across the region — system and network uptime, mean time to remediate, and project delivery — holding teams to common SLAs and service standards grounded in ITIL best practices.
  • Drive operational efficiency and improve cost-to-serve, measured by year-over-year labor against work volumes (tickets, servers, and infrastructure).
  • Direct escalation management for significant regional incidents, ensuring clear communication to business stakeholders and enterprise teams.
  • Oversee the four pillars of resort technology delivery: IT Operations (desktop, Point-of-Sale, guest-experience technology, and networking/server support); Infrastructure; System Administration; and Business Application Management — product setup, configuration, and pricing across lift tickets, rentals, food & beverage, retail, lodging, and e-commerce.

Infrastructure & Capital Planning

  • Direct long-term infrastructure capital planning for the region — networking, server, and on-site guest technology — balancing reliability, scalability, and cost.
  • Partner with Capital Development and real-estate teams to embed IT standards early in resort expansion and development projects.
  • Manage vendor relationships for server operating systems, database technologies, backup and recovery solutions, and storage/server hardware, leading long-term contract negotiations as needed.

Financial Stewardship

  • Own regional operating (OpEx) and capital (CapEx) budgets: forecast requirements, build the annual budget, manage expenditures, analyze variances, and initiate corrective action.
  • Optimize the technology portfolio through hardware and software audits and licensing strategy to manage cost-to-serve.

Mergers, Acquisitions & Change

  • Lead IT due diligence and integration for regional mergers and acquisitions, bringing newly acquired resorts onto common standards, platforms, and the regional operating model.
  • Champion change management across implementations and upgrades, driving adoption while minimizing disruption to resort operations.

Security, Risk & Compliance

  • Drive continuous improvement of security tooling, disaster recovery, and business-continuity planning across the region, in concert with the enterprise Security & Compliance team, including designing DR/BCP plans and running periodic readiness drills.
  • Support corporate initiatives to maintain PCI compliance across the region.

Team Leadership & Talent

  • Build and develop a high-performing, multi-site regional organization — recruiting, mentoring, and developing on-site technicians and specialists as well as regionalized system and network administrators.
  • Establish consistent staffing models, on-site coverage, and escalation paths across all resorts in the region, ensuring dependable support at every destination.
  • Set OKRs, KPIs, and metrics; conduct performance reviews; and carry out supervisory responsibilities — hiring, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, and resolving issues — in line with company policy and applicable federal, state, and provincial labor law, including payroll and overtime compliance.
  • Establish, implement, and enforce safety standards in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
  • Deliver monthly status reporting and manage to quarterly objectives.

Travel Requirements

  • Regular travel is required, including periodic travel to Alterra's Denver corporate office and to resorts within the assigned region for in-person leadership meetings and team engagement.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years of progressive experience and demonstrated growth in Information Technology.
  • 5+ years leading teams of IT professionals, ideally across multiple sites; ski-industry or resort-operations experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred, MBA a plus.
  • Technical proficiency with infrastructure technologies such as Windows Server, TCP/IP networking and routing, cloud infrastructure (Azure or AWS), virtualization (e.g., VMware), Microsoft 365, and telecommunications.
  • Experience delivering technology for hospitality, recreation, or multi-site operations — financial systems, Point-of-Sale, RFID and guest-experience technology, e-commerce, business intelligence, mobile, and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated success leading M&A integration and enterprise-wide change.
  • Familiarity with ITSM/ITIL service management and security/compliance frameworks (PCI, DR/BCP); ITIL, PMP, or comparable certification preferred.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Strategic – Builds and articulates a technology vision and multi-year roadmap, and moves the organization toward it.
  • Financially Astute – Applies strong financial acumen across operating and capital budgeting, forecasting, and variance management.
  • Executive Presence – Advises resort Presidents, COOs, and senior business leaders, translating strategy into technology outcomes.
  • Collaborative – Works independently in a self-directed manner and collaboratively across business lines, vendors, and enterprise teams.
  • Change-Oriented – Leads M&A integration and enterprise-wide change while minimizing disruption to operations.
  • Communicative – Demonstrates excellent communication and negotiation skills, and listens closely to help business leaders identify high-impact technology opportunities.
