About this job

AWS CloudTrail records API and user activity across hundreds of AWS services, giving customers complete visibility into their cloud operations for security and compliance. As AI agents increasingly make decisions and invoke APIs at scale, the need to verify that every event is generated correctly, completely, and on time has never been more urgent. We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead the verification and monitoring team within AWS CloudTrail. You will own the platform that detects data loss, integrity issues, and coverage gaps before customers are impacted — across all delivery channels and 378+ integrated services. You will combine technical depth with people leadership to grow engineers, shape architecture, and drive end-to-end outcomes that give AWS service teams confidence to move fast without compromising event quality.

Key job responsibilities

  • Own the technical roadmap for the verification and monitoring platform, defining strategy that ensures every event is delivered correctly and completely across all integrated AWS services.
  • Lead and grow a team of engineers and technical leaders by recruiting top talent, providing coaching and actionable feedback, and building programs to develop and retain high performers.
  • Establish AI-assisted development workflows — including AI-powered code generation, automated code reviews, and intelligent test creation — to multiply your team's engineering output while maintaining quality.
  • Drive cross-team engagement with AWS service teams and internal stakeholders using agile practices and strong program management to align priorities, manage dependencies, and report findings that shape organizational decisions.
  • Build and maintain automated monitoring systems that proactively detect data loss, integrity failures, and coverage gaps, ensuring issues are caught and remediated before they reach customers.

A day in the life

You start your morning reviewing verification dashboards and monitoring alerts to understand event integrity across AWS services. You join a design review where your engineers propose a new detection capability, and you pressure-test assumptions to sharpen the approach. After a one-on-one where you help a technical leader plan their next career milestone, you shift to a cross-team sync with an AWS service team to align on an upcoming launch and its event coverage requirements. Later, you review your team's prioritized project list, adjust sequencing based on new findings, and close the day by drafting a status update for leadership on recent impact metrics.

About the team

The Governance verification and monitoring team is the independent quality layer that ensures the accuracy and completeness of every audit event generated across AWS. Our work directly protects customers who depend on CloudTrail for security, compliance, and operational visibility. We are an inclusive group of engineers and leaders who value clear thinking, technical rigor, and a genuine commitment to each other's growth. As AWS accelerates AI adoption across its services, our mission is growing — we are investing in GenAI-powered monitoring, consolidating our platform architecture, and expanding coverage to keep pace with new services and agentic workloads.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
