About this job
About Ramp
Ramp is building the smart infrastructure for finance teams, embedded in the transaction flow of every dollar a business spends. We automate how over $200B in annualized spend flows in and out of 70,000+ companies: authorizing payments, flagging risk, categorizing spend, and closing books.
The problems are high-stakes, data-dense, and unforgiving.
We hire people with high agency and high urgency. We look for slope over intercept. We care less about where you trained and more about what you’ve built. At Ramp, everyone is a builder who owns problems end to end and makes consequential decisions that shape the outcome.
The median Ramp customer saves 5% and grows revenue 16% in their first year – far in excess of businesses operating without Ramp. We believe every ambitious company deserves the same.
If you want to build systems that directly shape how companies move and manage billions, Ramp is the place to do it.
About the Role
Ramp Economics Lab is the go-to source for understanding how businesses spend on and adopt AI. Built on Ramp’s $200B+ business spend dataset, our flagship Ramp AI Index tracks the AI economy through actual business spend data. We help CFOs and finance teams understand what these trends mean for their businesses, and our research is regularly cited by outlets including the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg. You will work with Ara Kharazian, lead economist.
We’re hiring an analytical, resourceful researcher to own and expand this work: run the Ramp AI Index, develop new metrics on AI spending and adoption, explore questions about AI ROI, and extend our research internationally. You’ll turn findings into clear reports, charts, presentations, and interactive tools that help CFOs and finance teams make better decisions.
You will also build our customer-facing research function: developing Ramp’s outlook on AI, meeting with customers and prospects, and translating our data into practical recommendations for business planning, budgeting, and AI strategy. You’ll partner with the growth team to package and distribute this work through reports, web content, presentations, and events that reach finance leaders.
This role combines economic judgment, applied data science, public writing, data visualization, and executive communication. You should be able to move from an important question to credible analysis, a clear visual or argument, and advice a business leader can act on.
What You Need
5+ years of experience in an analytical role, such as investment banking, equity or industry research, consulting, business operations, data science, or economics. We care about evidence of strong analysis, clear communication, and ownership across projects.
Strong perspectives on the economics of AI, economic policy, new media, and writing
Strong knowledge of SQL
Familiarity with BI tools (preferably Looker, Omni, Sigma, Hex or equivalent) and experience distributing data insights via reports and dashboards
Track record of shipping high-quality research, writing, and thought leadership under short, non-academic timelines
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly improving, start-up environment that focuses on solving problems with iterative technical solutions
Active reader of the news in economics, business, and AI trends
An advanced user of AI for data science, and an eye for good charts and web design (we vibecode ramp.com/data ourselves)
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with the modern data stack (Fivetran / Snowflake / dbt / Looker / Hightouch or equivalents)
Experience within the payments and financial technology space
