About this job

About the role

Jade is Chime’s AI financial partner, helping members better understand and manage their money. We’re looking for a senior software engineer who enjoys building reliable products and systems, solving practical problems, and learning new technologies.

You’ll help make Jade more discoverable, relevant, and engaging by connecting members with meaningful AI-powered experiences. You’ll work across the stack, building services, APIs, and member-facing features that power Jade. Our backend primarily uses Python, and we welcome engineers with experience in other languages who are interested in learning it. You’ll also help improve the quality, reliability, and performance of Jade as the product evolves.

We value strong engineering fundamentals, thoughtful problem-solving, and curiosity. Prior experience with AI or machine learning is preferred, but not required.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Design, build, and scale full-stack features across backend services, APIs, and mobile and web applications to support Jade’s capabilities.
  • Own complex projects end-to-end, from technical design and implementation through testing and rollout.
  • Partner with product, design, data science, and engineering teams to understand member needs, define experiments, and improve the member experience.
  • Contribute to testing, evaluations, and experimentation to measure quality and understand the impact of new features.
  • Identify technical challenges and drive improvements in system reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Contribute to engineering best practices through code reviews, mentorship, and technical discussions.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • 5+ years developing software in a production environment at scale.
  • Proficiency in a backend programming language, such as Python or Ruby, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Experience with modern front-end technologies, such as React Native, React, or TypeScript, with an emphasis on mobile development.
  • Experience building backend services and APIs, working with databases, and designing distributed systems.
  • Experience deploying and supporting production applications, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and working with cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience owning complex projects, making technical decisions, and delivering features end-to-end across teams.
  • Ability to proactively identify technical challenges, propose solutions, and drive improvements in system reliability, performance, and engineering practices.
  • A product mindset with an interest in using data and experimentation to improve member experiences.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
  • Experience mentoring other engineers and contributing to code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best practices.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with Python and its backend development ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), including using model APIs, prompts, or tools to build applications.
  • Exposure to AI evaluations (“evals”), such as using test cases, datasets, or experiments to measure response quality and identify regressions.
  • Experience with AI development tools or frameworks, such as LangChain, LangSmith, Amazon Bedrock or similar tools.
