About this job
Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.
At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.
A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
Roblox’s data infrastructure powers analytics, machine learning, and product decisions across a platform serving more than 200 million daily active users. As a Senior Software Engineer in Data Infra, you will build the next-generation of metrics platform that helps teams define trusted metrics once, discover and govern them, and use them across analytics and data-processing systems. This role combines high ambiguity and ownership to push the boundaries of what our infrastructure can handle at massive scale, giving you the unique opportunity to steer the evolution of the data landscape.
You Will:
- Build the metrics platform: Design and implement metric platform to enable metric registration, discovery, versioning, ownership, dependencies, and governance. Lead the effort to integrate with analytics systems to consume shared metric definitions across query and compute engines, while preserving consistent semantics.
- Connect definitions to data: Support the lifecycle from a metric’s logical definition to its physical materializations and serving locations, including integration with Spark, Flink, OLAP, and feature platforms.
- Build for scale and reliability: Design distributed services and data workflows that are observable, resilient, and efficient at Roblox scale.
- Work across teams: Partner with data engineers, analytics consumers, ML teams and infrastructure teams to understand their needs and evolve the platform around real use cases.
- Shape technical direction: Drive architecture decisions and help establish a foundation that supports future metric use cases without tying definitions to a single execution engine.
- Agentic Interface: Embed AI/ML capabilities within our data platform, leveraging LLMs for data discovery and generation, building autonomous, self-serve mechanisms for platform interaction layer.
You Have:
- 6+ years of experience building, designing, testing and maintaining production-grade, large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience with data platforms, metadata or catalog systems, semantic layers, analytical systems, or large-scale data processing.
- Strong engineering skills in Java, Go, Scala, or Python, with experience designing reliable services and APIs.
- Familiarity with SQL and data-processing systems such as Spark, Flink, Trino, Druid, or similar technologies.
- Experience working across teams to make platform capabilities usable by other engineers.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across teams, mentor engineers, and drive alignment on complex cross-cutting initiatives.
- B.S. equivalent in CS or sufficient experience.
Nice to Have:
- Experience designing metric or semantic platforms, data catalogs, lineage systems, or data governance capabilities.
- Experience integrating metric definitions with multiple query or compute engines.
- Contributions to open-source projects in the data infrastructure ecosystem.
- Experience operating data infrastructure at consumer-internet scale.
