About this job

The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) is seeking an experienced, board-certified Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist to join our Internal Medicine Department as a Senior Veterinarian.

This opportunity is designed for an accomplished internist who has established strong clinical expertise following residency and is interested in practicing at the highest level of specialty medicine while contributing to the education and development of the next generation of veterinary specialists.

The ideal candidate will bring 3–5+ years of post-residency specialty practice experience, demonstrated confidence managing complex medical cases, and an interest in teaching, mentorship, collaboration, and continued professional growth.

At AMC, Senior Veterinarians have the opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice with academic medicine in one of the most comprehensive multidisciplinary veterinary environments in the world.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Veterinarian in Internal Medicine, you will manage a diverse and challenging caseload that includes outpatient consultations, hospitalized patients, advanced diagnostics, and specialty procedures.

The role includes:

  • Providing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care for complex internal medicine cases
  • Managing both outpatient and hospitalized patients
  • Performing and/or participating in advanced Internal Medicine procedures
  • Collaborating closely with specialists across AMC's multidisciplinary services
  • Supervising and mentoring Internal Medicine residents
  • Teaching and mentoring rotating interns
  • Participating in academic and clinical teaching rounds
  • Providing clinical guidance and mentorship to veterinary technicians and other members of the patient care team
  • Contributing to AMC's culture of collaborative medicine, continuing education, and clinical advancement
  • Participating in scholarly activity, clinical research, or publication when desired

Senior Veterinarians at AMC are encouraged to continue developing areas of specialized clinical interest while sharing their expertise with colleagues, residents, interns, and the broader veterinary community.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree from an accredited institution
  • Successful completion of a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine
  • Board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM – Small Animal Internal Medicine)
  • Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the State of New York
  • While all ranges of post-residency employment will be considered, 3-5+ years of post-residency experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing complex referral and specialty Internal Medicine cases
  • Strong clinical judgment and advanced diagnostic capabilities
  • Ability and interest in teaching, mentoring, and providing clinical oversight to residents and interns
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary specialty hospital

Preferred Experience

While not required, we are particularly interested in candidates who bring additional experience or advanced clinical interests in one or more of the following areas:

  • Nephrology and urology
  • Hemodialysis and extracorporeal therapies
  • Gastroenterology
  • Hematology and immune-mediated disease

Candidates with an established area of clinical expertise who are interested in further developing that specialty within AMC are strongly encouraged to apply.
