About this job

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Waymo’s Technical Program Managers are accountable for Waymo’s roadmap execution by providing thoughtful cross-functional planning, clarity, and proactive risk management. In the face of complex technical and operational challenges with no established playbooks to follow, we act with thoughtful urgency, driving conversations, discussions, and outcomes. Our team partners closely with every function of Waymo to structure, own and drive work towards real-world deployments of the Waymo Driver across platforms and geographies.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports and you will report to a Manager of Technical Program Management.

You will:

  • Lead critical cross-functional Fleet Management programs across Product, Ops, Systems Engineering, Design, and Engineering, establishing or improving workflows and processes where needed

  • Drive end-to-end technical program execution for fleet orchestration & optimization, automation workflow feature development, and new vehicle platform enablement—from requirements through staged rollout

  • Prioritize, manage, and drive program issues, risks, and cross-team dependencies; resolve misalignments with overall scope, schedule, and engineering capacity

  • Establish and drive fleet and depot reliability programs, including operational triage, bug burndowns, early issue discovery, and pre-production evaluation roadmaps

  • Keep stakeholders across Waymo informed and aligned; represent programs to senior leadership and partner with them to remove blockers

  • Prioritize projects across the Fleet portfolio, ensuring scope, time, and resources are defined and aligned to maximize vehicle uptime, depot turnaround efficiency, and operational scalability

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager driving complex software, systems, or operational engineering programs

  • Track record of managing complex end-to-end programs where operational reliability, precision, and attention to detail are critical to success

  • Experience driving large cross-functional technical programs within Fleet Management, Workflow Automation, Operations, or Systems/Software Engineering

  • Strong leadership skills, and clear verbal and written communication, alongside the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive decision-making

  • Expertise in scaling processes, release/experimentation guardrails, and reliability practices (triage, bug burndowns, root-cause analysis) within complex, fast-growing areas

We prefer:

  • Experience with software program management, workflow orchestration, distributed systems, or system reliability and evaluation frameworks

  • Expertise within the autonomous vehicle, automotive, robotics/automation, or EV charging/energy infrastructure industries

  • Expertise with Fleet Management, Depot/Operations, or software development programs and multi-platform hardware/software integration
