About this job
What is Departures Tech all about?
Amazonian Experience and Technology is investing heavily in technology to modernize and unify the employee departure experience across Amazon's workforce of more than 1.3 million people. Our mission is clear: deliver a seamless, dignified, and operationally excellent experience for every Amazonian navigating a departure. Our team includes dedicated engineers, product managers, and operations managers building world-class systems that serve employees, HR partners, managers, and service delivery teams across the globe.
We are looking for a SDE II to design the end-to-end case management experience a single, unified platform that brings clarity, composability, and intelligence to how multiple service delivery teams manage departure cases from initiation through resolution.
The work we do matters. Every departure impacts a real person navigating one of the most significant transitions in their career. Supporting employees and the teams that serve them with transparent, efficient, and empathetic technology makes a profound difference. We are our own customers; it's our colleagues we support, our processes we streamline, and our data we must safeguard.
Who are we looking for? We are looking for a talented Software Developer with a strong technical background, customer obsession and bias for action with a track record of leading and delivering robust solutions quickly. Strong judgment and communication skills, long-term technical vision, and continuous focus on engineering and operational excellence are essential for success in this role. You will be expected to be proficient technically, mentor and grow junior developers, encourage software development best practices, and iterate quickly ensuring delivery of a unified case management experience that integrates across multiple service delivery teams. Our north star is a composable, AI-native platform that provides: A single unified experience for case workers across all service delivery functions; one interface to manage cases regardless of departure type or workflow stage Clear data funnels and journey visibility; real-time insight into where a case stands, what's happened, and what comes next across the full lifecycle An AI-native composable architecture; leveraging generative AI to intelligently route cases, surface relevant context, enable seamless transition to a human for understanding the overall landscape enabling them to make the right decisions. The best candidates will have deep expertise in full-stack development, cloud-native patterns (event-driven architectures, data streaming, microservices), and hands-on experience designing and shipping GenAI-powered features including LLM integration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agent-based systems,. They will be comfortable navigating a complex internal ecosystem of HR systems, front-end platforms, and data stores to recommend, extend, or build both foundational capabilities (case lifecycle management, workflow orchestration, communication automation, population segmentation, audit trails) and intuitive user-facing experiences that abstract underlying system complexity. Key job responsibilities What you'll do:
- As an SDE2 you will be responsible for designing and building new features on a low latency, high through put unified case management platform serving multiple service delivery teams with distinct but overlapping workflows
- Build composable, AI-native services that enable intelligent case routing, contextual recommendations, automated summarization, and conversational interfaces
- Build clear data models and pipelines that provide end-to-end visibility into the customer journey from case creation through resolution and post-departure follow-up
- Drive API-first design patterns that enable extensibility and integration with existing Departures systems (TAA, DLS, DSS, HRSC, Manager Hub, A to Z)
- Raise the technical bar through code reviews, design reviews, and mentorship of SDEs across the team
- Operate with high ownership in an ambiguous space — this is a Day 1 initiative where you'll shape both the product and the engineering culture
