About this job
The Portfolio Strategy & Planning team determines how Amazon invests its fixed marketing portfolio across the Amazon and Prime brands in North America. We build the planning frameworks, investment strategies, and inspection cycles that shape where, when, and how brand marketing shows up for customers. This is a strategy role. You will support and co-lead the analytical foundation that turns consumer research, business intelligence, media performance data, and econometric/ROI reads into investment recommendations for senior executive audiences. You will contribute to telling senior leaders where to invest, where to cut, and why. The primary output of this team is written memorandums for senior leadership (Directors upwards), so the ability to make data tell a clear story on paper without “marketing fluff” is the core skill.
You will work primarily with the Cross-Category and Channel Marketing (XCM) organization in North America, and partner closely with finance, measurement, performance marketing, and media planning teams. This is not a media planning role. Media planning is a close collaborator. Our job as Portfolio Strategists is to build the strategic scaffolding that media planning executes against.
Key job responsibilities
What You'll Do
- Support the annual Operating Plan (OP1/OP2) development for North America's fixed marketing portfolio, coordinating inputs from media, campaign teams, customer insights, finance, and measurement into a single integrated investment recommendation.
- Reconcile top-down financial guardrails with bottom-up media cost realities. Co-lead in defining the trade-offs and present them with a clear recommendation, not a menu of options.
- Own the Quarterly Business Review (QBR) process: inspect input and output metrics, surface risks early, and recommend course corrections with quantified impact.
- Manage spend tracking across budget owners (media, production, measurement) and coordinate quarterly guidance updates with Finance.
- Co-Lead bi-annual portfolio laydown reviews to ensure execution stays aligned to strategy. Flag drift and propose fixes.
- Synthesize consumer research, business intelligence, econometric models, and media performance data into a holistic view of which marketing bets to fund, scale, or cut.
- Support the development of investment strategies that optimize short- and long-term returns across Amazon's priority categories, including grocery and healthcare.
- Partner with business intelligence and measurement teams to improve marketing and customer lifecycle measurement. Push for better data where current reads are insufficient.
- Write and present high-quality documents to Directors and support in the creation of VP and SVP documents. Support in the translation of complex analytical findings into clear investment narratives.
- Build scalable planning processes and frameworks that allow the portfolio function to operate at the pace the business requires.
Basic Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional non-internship marketing experience
- 6+ years of developing and managing acquisition marketing or channel programs experience
- Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements
- Experience with Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables)
- Experience building, executing and scaling cross-functional marketing programs
- Experience in marketing (non-internship)
- Experience presenting metrics and progress to goal to senior leadership
- Experience using data and metrics to measure impact and determine improvements
- Experience communicating results to senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving direction and alignment with large cross-functional teams and agency partners
- Experience designing and executing joint marketing plans with strategic alliance partners with global footprint
