JOB DESCRIPTION
Axcelis is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of highly mechanized and automated capital equipment for the semiconductor industry. Working closely with product and marketing managers, the engineer is responsible for developing innovative solutions to difficult engineering challenges facing ion implanters. Projects may include new product development, continuous improvement, part obsolescence, and field-identified issues. The engineer will champion sound engineering methods, analysis tools, DfX, and concurrent product development processes to deliver solutions right the first time. In addition to owning projects, the engineer will also guide less experienced engineers, knowing when to coach and when to delegate to elevate others on the team.
Responsibilities
- Develop new and innovative solutions for existing and future ion implanters.
- Ensures adherence to the development process, including requirements planning, schedule estimates, concept reviews, design reviews, verification, and validation test plans.
- Monitors progress of projects, confers with program and project engineers, and reviews reports to see that development is progressing according to schedule and within budgetary guidelines. Recommends corrective action as required.
- Manages the mechanical engineering interface to the design services group and to offshore teams to deliver quality designs and on-time performance.
- Communicates to customers and cross-functional groups the status of various development projects. Ensures that products and projects are delivered to meet customer requirements and specifications.
- Holds mechanical engineers accountable to quality goals, schedules, development process, and system performance. The role requires close day-to-day interaction with both project managers and key customers to manage the complete mechanical engineering lifecycle for new and legacy products. Strong interpersonal skills are mandatory, together with a drive to succeed.
