About this job
Many structural heart patients suffer from heart failure with limited options. Our Implantable Heart Failure Management (IHFM) business's AI, Product and Platforms organization is at the forefront of addressing these unmet patient needs through pioneering technology that enables early, targeted therapeutic intervention. Our innovative solutions are not just transforming patient care but also creating a unique and exciting environment for our team members. It is our driving force to help patients live longer and healthier lives. Join us and be part of our inspiring journey.
At Edwards Lifesciences, the Implantable Heart Failure Management (IHFM) AI, Product and Platforms organization designs and builds the software and data products that clinicians and patients depend on. As a Staff Software Engineer (Applications), Full Stack, you set the web application architecture across the front end, the BFF, and supporting services, drive modernization at scale, and personally build the patterns and tooling multiple teams adopt.
Based in Irvine, CA, you'll join a high-impact medtech innovation hub in the heart of Orange County, collaborating in person with cross-functional teams to shape patient-focused technology.
How you'll make an impact:
- Web architecture, built. Set the web application architecture across the front end and its consumption of Platform APIs, including design system implementation, API contract patterns, navigation, feature flags, and modularization, and personally build the reference implementations.
- Modernization at scale. Drive the Angular to React and BFF to Platform APIs migrations across teams, progressively retiring the BFF layer, and make monorepo and rendering strategy (server-side, static, and client-side) decisions backed by working prototypes.
- API and platform partnership. Partner with Platform engineers on API and gateway design that serves the application layer well, contribute server-side code to Platform-owned services where it unblocks client work, design integrations with third-party and EMR / EHR systems, and bring client constraints into product roadmap discussions.
- Cloud-native patterns. Set the cloud deployment patterns for web applications (containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code) in partnership with Platform and DevOps and build the reference pipelines teams adopt.
- Mobile partnership. Partner with the Mobile track on shared API contracts, design system parity, and cross-surface architecture, so that web and mobile evolve coherently.
- Standards. Set engineering standards across the web application ecosystem for code quality, accessibility implementation, performance budgets, API design, and test strategy.
- Design control at scale. Shape how application design outputs, verification evidence, and traceability are produced across teams, in partnership with Software Systems and Process Development.
- Multiplier. Mentor P3 engineers, set the hiring bar at this level, and multiply team output through the architecture and tooling you build.
What you'll need (Required):
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field plus 8 years, or Master's degree plus 6 years.
- Recognized depth in web application architecture, with hands-on fluency in React, Angular, Platform API and gateway consumption (REST and GraphQL), and at least one server-side language, plus working knowledge of mobile client architecture.
- A track record of setting technical standards adopted across multiple teams.
- Experience leading a large-scale frontend or API modernization, such as Angular to React or BFF to Platform APIs.
- Experience designing and operating cloud-deployed applications at scale, including containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
- The ability to embed quality and traceability into a secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC), including CI/CD and automated testing.
What else we look for (Preferred):
- Experience in medical device software (SaMD), or other regulated classes of device software, under IEC 62304, ISO 13485, IEC 62366-1, and FDA design controls.
- Experience with experimentation, feature flag, and modular build infrastructure.
- Experience across the UI framework and design system ecosystem, such as Material UI, Chakra UI, Radix UI, Tailwind UI, shadcn/ui, IBM Carbon, or Ant Design.
- Experience with EMR / EHR integration (HL7, FHIR, IHE) and clinical workflows.
- Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK).
