We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will lead the design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of mechanical and structural systems and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) associated with space vehicle test facilities. This includes component and assembly level tooling fixtures, large super structures, pipe racks, and secondary support structures.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and develop structural design solutions for complex structural and mechanical ground systems, driving technical decisions across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Own the full lifecycle design and management of test stand integration tooling through development and production build phases, including defining architecture and system-level requirements.
  • Provide FEA and hand-calcs for steel structures and tooling fixtures, and serve as a technical authority on analysis methods and results.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in analysis techniques, design standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Lead external design and fabrication partners through the complete project lifecycle, including defining scopes of work, managing technical reviews, and overseeing equipment fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, and activation.
  • Identify and drive resolution of complex technical risks and cross-functional engineering challenges.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in structural, civil, mechanical, or aerospace engineering (or similar discipline).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in design, analysis, and construction of large structural systems (i.e., oil and gas structures, aerospace tooling, movable structures, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience leading structural and mechanical analysis efforts utilizing FEA tools (STAAD and ANSYS preferred).
  • Experience designing and analyzing bolted and welded connections, including serving as a technical reviewer for these analyses.
  • Experience designing and analyzing concrete foundations and anchors.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
  • Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating and reviewing tooling drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in GSE design and analysis for the aerospace industry.
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams or external partners on large-scale structural projects.
  • Deep expertise in STAAD and ANSYS, including the ability to develop and enforce analysis standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of standard components, installation, and fabrication methods of piping systems.
  • Knowledge of fluid components typical in tubing and piping systems (valves, regulators, pumps, etc.).
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and extensive in-field oversight of construction, testing, and/or operations of piping systems.
  • Pipe stress and pipe support design experience (Bentley AutoPIPE preferred).
  • PE license (structural).
