Coinbase is looking for a Technical Accounting Policy Manager to join the Accounting team. This highly visible individual contributor role sits at the intersection of Technical Accounting Policy, Controllership, and strategic business initiatives. You’ll shape how Coinbase accounts for new and evolving crypto products, complex transactions, and emerging accounting matters while partnering across Finance, Legal, Tax, Product, and external advisors. Reporting to the Director of Reporting and Technical Accounting Policy, you’ll help translate complex business developments into clear, well-supported accounting conclusions. This is a remote role.
What You’ll Do
- Shape Coinbase’s accounting policies for new products and complex transactions; write technical accounting memos and bring conclusions to closure with external auditors.
- Monitor emerging accounting guidance and business developments, assess their impact on Coinbase, and recommend practical, risk-aware accounting conclusions.
- Lead accounting analyses for strategic investments and other complex transactions under ASC 321, ASC 323, and ASC 810, including equity-method, fair-value, and consolidation considerations.
- Support M&A and other strategic transactions by coordinating accounting diligence, evaluating deal terms, and advising on purchase accounting under ASC 805 when applicable.
- Deliver original footnote, MD&A, and transaction-related disclosures for 10-Q and 10-K filings, and help ensure related SOX controls are designed and operating effectively.
- Partner with Corporate Development, Legal, Tax, FP&A, Product, and Controllership to support new product launches, strategic initiatives, and post-close integration activities.
- Manage external advisors as needed, including scoping engagements, reviewing deliverables, and maintaining quality and timeline accountability.
Required Skills and Experience
- 9+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in public accounting and industry; CPA required. Big 4 experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong US GAAP knowledge, including direct experience with technical accounting, investment accounting, consolidation, and business combinations.
- Experience analyzing complex transactions and translating business arrangements into clear accounting conclusions.
- Experience drafting technical accounting memos and original financial statement disclosures, and communicating complex conclusions clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience managing external consultants or advisors and holding them to clear quality and timeline standards.
- Strong judgment, organization, and ability to manage competing reporting, policy, and strategic initiative deadlines in an evolving business.
- Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
