About this job

Role Overview

The US Model Portfolio Strategy & Commercialization, VP will be a senior commercial leader within Global Multi-Asset Solutions & Model Portfolios responsible for shaping and executing the commercial strategy for State Street Investment Management’s US model portfolio business.  The role will determine how model portfolios and multi-asset solutions are brought to market, including which solutions, client segments, channels and platforms to prioritize; how capabilities are positioned against competitors; how the sales organization is equipped to engage clients; and how commercial opportunities translate into adoption and funded assets.

The successful candidate will bring experience in investment product commercialization, sales strategy and the US wealth market, along with exposure to ETF model portfolios and/or multi-asset solutions. This is not a portfolio management role. Rather, this individual will have the investment acumen to clearly articulate portfolio differentiation, investment applications and competitive positioning while partnering with the Investment Solutions Group on deeper portfolio construction and investment discussions.

As a senior commercial leader, this individual will lead a team of 3–5 professionals and work closely with Client Coverage Group (CCG), Investment Solutions Group (ISG), Home Office, Marketing, Compliance, Markets Intelligence and other partners to connect investment capabilities, client needs, and market intelligence with disciplined commercial execution.

Why This Role Matters

The continued growth of the model portfolio business requires more than strong investment capabilities. It requires clear commercial leadership around which solutions to prioritize, where to position them, how to communicate their value and how to convert market interest into adoption and funded assets. This role creates that ownership for the US model portfolio business.

By connecting investment capabilities with advisor needs, distribution strategy, competitive intelligence and disciplined commercial execution, the US Model Portfolio Sales Strategist will help ensure State Street Investment Management brings the right model to the right client with the right message, while building a repeatable commercialization approach that supports long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Strategy & Growth

  • Set the US commercial strategy for model portfolios and multi-asset solutions, defining priority models, client segments, distribution channels, platforms and commercial opportunities.
  • Determine where and how State Street Investment Management should focus resources to maximize model adoption and asset growth.
  • Translate client, advisor, platform, market and competitive intelligence into actionable commercial priorities and recommendations.
  • Develop strategies to move opportunities from initial interest through adoption and funded assets, identifying barriers and directing actions needed to improve conversion.
  • Establish clear measures of commercial success, including AUM growth, model adoption, platform penetration, launch effectiveness and committed-to-funded conversion.

Model Commercialization & Positioning

  • Lead the commercialization of prioritized model portfolios, from market opportunity and platform positioning through launch, sales enablement, client adoption, and measurement of results.
  • Own the commercial narrative and competitive positioning for model portfolios, translating complex investment concepts into clear and compelling client and advisor messages.
  • Determine how individual models and solutions should be positioned across different client needs, advisor segments, channels, and market environments.
  • Bring recurring client needs, advisor feedback and competitive insights back into model portfolio planning, positioning, and future solution development.
  • Partner with ISG to connect investment expertise with commercially relevant client conversations, while serving as the commercial lead on positioning, market opportunity, and adoption strategy.

Distribution Strategy & Sales Enablement

  • Partner closely with CCG and distribution leadership to identify the highest-priority advisor, home-office, platform, and client opportunities.
  • Develop data-driven target strategies and next-best actions that help sellers understand which model to position, with which client, and with what message.
  • Equip sales teams with the positioning, competitive insights, training and tools required to confidently bring model portfolio solutions to clients.
  • Lead and participate in client and advisor discussions around model differentiation, competitive positioning and how solutions may complement an overall portfolio.
  • Support platform placement and activation strategies, ensuring the organization is commercially prepared to drive adoption following approval or launch.
  • Help evaluate and prioritize custom model opportunities and establish a consistent commercial approach for progressing those opportunities.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Influence

  • Lead and develop a team of 3–5 professionals responsible for supporting execution of the US model portfolio commercial strategy, including market and client analysis, targeting, model pricing and sales materials.
  • Establish clear priorities and accountability across the team, ensuring execution remains aligned to the highest-value commercial opportunities.
  • Serve as a senior connector across Distribution, Investment Solutions, Product, Marketing, Compliance, Markets Intelligence, Data, and platform stakeholders.
  • Influence priorities and mobilize cross-functional partners in a complex matrixed environment to move commercial initiatives from strategy through execution.
  • Provide senior leadership with clear recommendations and insights on model portfolio growth opportunities, market dynamics, competitive positioning, and commercial performance.

Key Accountabilities / Measures of Success

Success in this role will be measured by the ability to translate model portfolio capabilities into measurable commercial outcomes, including:

  • Net new assets and AUM growth across prioritized model portfolios.
  • Advisor and client adoption of prioritized models.
  • Platform placement, activation, and penetration.
  • Committed-to-funded conversion across priority opportunities.
  • Successful commercialization and adoption of new and existing model solutions.
  • Effectiveness of model positioning, targeting, and competitive differentiation.
  • Sales-team readiness, engagement, and effectiveness in positioning model portfolios.
  • Development and performance of the model commercialization team.
  • Quality of market, client and competitive insights used to inform commercial priorities.

Specific KPI targets will be established with CCG and ISG partners based on agreed commercial priorities and available data.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in investment product commercialization, sales strategy, distribution strategy, model portfolios, multi-asset solutions or a related asset or wealth management function.
  • Meaningful experience with or exposure to ETF model portfolios and/or multi-asset investment solutions.
  • Strong understanding of the US wealth management ecosystem, including home offices, financial advisors, wealth platforms, and intermediary distribution channels.
  • Demonstrated experience bringing investment products or solutions to market, including areas such as platform placement, channel strategy, product positioning, launch execution, sales enablement, and adoption.
  • Proven ability to translate complex investment products and themes into clear, differentiated and commercially relevant client and advisor messaging.
  • Strong investment acumen sufficient to credibly discuss model differentiation, portfolio applications and competitive positioning with clients and internal partners.
  • Demonstrated commercial orientation with experience using measures such as AUM growth, adoption, platform penetration, and conversion to assess opportunities and results.
  • Direct sales experience or significant experience partnering closely with sales and distribution organizations, with demonstrated understanding of advisor and client needs.
  • Strong executive presence, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage credibly with home offices, advisors, sales leaders, investment professionals, and senior executives.
  • Demonstrated people-management experience, including setting strategy, establishing priorities, developing talent, and leading teams responsible for execution.
  • Ability to lead through influence across Investment, Distribution, Product, Marketing, Compliance, Data, and other functions within a complex matrixed organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree and/or relevant industry designation is a plus.
