About this job
Our Mission
Rebuild how the world works, to make institutions work better for the people they serve.
About Brain Co.
Brain Co. builds AI-native operating systems for large, regulated institutions. Each system is built for a specific industry, powered by agents that push real workflows forward. Underneath it all is Atlas, our proprietary platform that keeps customers in control, secure by design, and never locked into one model.
Why Now
Brain Co. is entering its next phase of production deployments on a national scale with an elite team built from Palantir, Google, Meta, and Nvidia, and a growing footprint across government, insurance, health, and financial services.
Joining now means shaping both the company and a new category of applied AI. Every project here ships to production and is expected to create measurable customer value and impact.
You'll work alongside exceptional peers on some of the hardest problems in applied AI. It’s the kind of work you'll still be proud of in ten years from now.
What You'll Work On
You'll join the team that owns the Software Factory: the development environments, build systems, CI/CD, and engineering automation that set the ceiling on how fast every other engineer at Brain Co. can ship high-quality software.
This is a force-multiplier role: your work compounds as we add teams, services, and customers. You'll shape how engineers develop, test, review, and ship software, combining developer tooling, reliable infrastructure, and AI-assisted workflows to improve speed and quality across Brain Co.
Your job is to discover, measure, and remove developer friction. You should be comfortable going from “this workflow is slow or confusing” to instrumented evidence, a shipped improvement, and clear before/after impact.
Own developer environments and build infrastructure
Own the local development experience, monorepo, build systems, and shared tooling. Make it easy for engineers to set up, develop, and test software, with fast and reliable workflows as the company scales.
Build delivery workflows and engineering automation
Own CI/CD, PR workflows, code-review automation, and shared tooling for product quality assurance. Integrate AI-assisted development and coding agents where they improve speed and quality, supporting delivery across cloud, regulated, and air-gapped environments.
Measure and improve developer experience
Discover, measure, and remove friction across the development lifecycle. Combine developer feedback with instrumentation to shorten feedback loops, improve reliability, and demonstrate clear before/after impact.
Drive onboarding, enablement, and adoption
Help engineers become productive quickly through intuitive tooling, documentation, and practical support. Guide teams through new workflows and migrations, and drive adoption through quality, not mandates.
Operate the developer platform as a product
Own the full lifecycle: architecture, implementation, rollout, reliability, and iteration based on internal user feedback. Partner closely with engineering, Infrastructure, and Security to build a platform teams trust and want to use.
You Might Be a Great Fit If You…
We're looking for engineers who treat developer experience as a product — engineers who reach for users, not just specs.
Developer Platform & Build Systems
Have 3+ years building developer-facing infrastructure: monorepo platforms, build systems, CI/CD, or internal tooling.
Have hands-on depth with at least one modern monorepo tool (Nx, Bazel, Pants, Buck, Turborepo) and the willingness to go deeper.
Have strong fluency with CI/CD systems at scale (GitHub Actions, Buildkite, CircleCI, or similar): matrix design, caching strategies, secret flow, parallelism.
Are fluent in at least two of: Go, Python, TypeScript, Rust, Bash.
Have experience building automated testing or code-quality workflows that engineers trust.
Platform & Product Mindset
Have shipped developer platforms that real engineers adopted.
Have measured developer friction and shown clear before/after impact from tooling, CI, build, release, or workflow improvements.
Have strong intuition for developer experience, paved paths, and long-term maintainability.
Are comfortable owning the full lifecycle: design doc, MVP, hardening, adoption.
Can help teams adopt new tools and migrate existing workflows through clear documentation and practical support.
Production & Reliability
Have owned developer-facing systems with real uptime and operational responsibility.
Are familiar with observability tooling and incident response.
Bring strong fundamentals in retries, idempotency, queueing, and failure modes for reliable build and automation systems.
Ways You Might Stand Out
Built or integrated coding agents, automated code review, or AI-assisted testing into engineering workflows, with measurable improvements in speed or quality.
Experience with sandboxed code execution, credential scoping, or security controls for development agents.
Built or significantly contributed to a remote build cache, custom build system, or hermetic build pipeline (Bazel, Nix, etc.).
Led a polyrepo → monorepo (or reverse) migration at scale.
Experience applying DORA / SPACE or other DX metrics in practice.
Background in release engineering, supply-chain security (SLSA, Sigstore), or artifact management.
Built internal PaaS, dev environments, or scaffolding generators.
Built shared quality-assurance infrastructure, such as end-to-end test harnesses, Storybook / visual-regression tooling, accessibility checks, or performance budgets across apps.
Open-source contributions to Nx plugins, GitHub Actions, coding-agent tooling, or related developer platforms.
Exposure to multi-tenant, regulated, or air-gapped deployment environments.
Why This Role Matters
You'll set the ceiling on how fast every other engineer at Brain Co. can ship. As we grow from a handful of teams to dozens — building AI systems for governments and regulated industries — the platform that lets us move quickly without breaking what matters becomes one of the highest-leverage systems in the company.
Benefits
