Job Description

The AI and Emerging Technologies Risk Manager will serve as a central point of coordination for AI use case intake, onboarding, governance, and AI oversight. The role will provide consultative guidance to business partners, perform intake quality control, coordinate with appropriate risk and control partners, and support governance throughout the asset lifecycle for AI use cases.

This role partners closely with Wealth, Corporate, Commercial & Institutional Banking (WCIB) business leaders and the Second Line of Defense (SLOD) teams including Enterprise Risk Management, Technology Risk Oversight, Model Risk Management, Compliance, Law Division, Third Party Risk Management, Enterprise Data Governance, and Information Security Services and Technology Risk Oversight. The candidate selected will ensure emerging AI technology risks are properly identified, assessed, documented, monitored, and escalated. While SLOD teams provide independent oversight and challenge, this role retains business line accountability for execution, evidence, issue management, and remediation.

Position Highlights

  • Serve as the primary accountable risk leader for WCIB AI use cases, pilots, and proofs of concept
  • Provide oversight and maintain standards for the WCIB AI use case portfolio, ensuring complete, accurate, and transparent documentation throughout the AI lifecycle
  • Provide guidance on AI policy requirements, risk considerations, governance expectations, and required artifacts. Translate policy requirements into actionable business guidance
  • Drive execution of policy and procedural requirements, including required registry records, monitoring plans, testing evidence, and governance documentation
  • Promote a strong risk culture by proactively identifying governance gaps, including unregistered or unauthorized AI activities, and driving remediation to maintain compliance and operational integrity
  • Lead the identification, assessment, escalation, and remediation of AI and emerging technology risks, control deficiencies, risk acceptances, and corrective action plans (i.e. issue management)
  • Apply knowledge of WCIB’s AI enablement strategy to align risk governance with business priorities, strategic initiatives, and growth objectives
  • Lead complex and ambiguous risk topics, influence senior stakeholders, and communicate decisions, risks, and escalations in an executive-ready manner

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Typically more than 10 years of applicable experience

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that impact their assigned line of business
  • Advanced understanding of the business line’s operations, products/services, systems, and associated risks/controls
  • Thorough knowledge of Risk/Compliance/Audit competencies
  • Strong leadership and management skills of processes, projects and people
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills
  • Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications
  • Applicable professional certifications
