- Manage disputes: Oversee pre-litigation and litigation matters, including managing outside counsel.
- Be a trusted advisor: Give clear, practical and timely guidance on legal issues affecting the business and help solve the business problems behind them.
- Champion compliance: Keep the company in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and promote risk management best practices across the organization.
- Advise on employment matters: Review employment issues and partner with HR on hiring, policies, employee relations and workplace compliance.
- Protect intellectual property: Support the company’s patent and trademark portfolios, working with outside IP counsel on filings, prosecution, maintenance and enforcement.
- Support corporate matters: Help prepare quarterly Board materials, support M&A transactions as needed, and assist with broader governance matters, including drafting, updating and enforcing corporate policies.
- Educate and empower: Design and deliver legal training that helps business teams spot issues and make informed decisions.
- Partner across the company: Serve as lead lawyer on cross-functional teams, working closely with colleagues in every part of the business.
- Know the business: Develop a deep understanding of the company’s operations, products, and key legal documents.
- Keep leadership informed: Raise concerns to the General Counsel along with proposed solutions and share updates on current matters at legal department meetings.
- Maintain legal resources: Organize and maintain the department’s templates and forms.
- Support sustainability: Help meet the company’s Environmental Management System (EMS) obligations by following recycling guidelines, waste management practices, and other environmental standards.
- Take on other responsibilities as the business evolves and as assigned.
