About this job

About Norm Law

Norm Law is the premier AI-native law firm, built for global institutions.

Powered by Norm Ai, we combine elite legal talent with purpose-built AI agents to deliver faster, more precise, and more reliable legal services.

This Role

As a Tax Associate at Norm Law, you will support a 360-degree funds tax practice representing marquee managers across private equity, venture, credit, hedge, and other private investment fund matters. You'll work on entity structuring, fund formation, manager advisory, and portfolio transactions. You will interact, train and be assisted by AI agents who will help you be more efficient, specifically through pattern recognition across voluminous documents. You will continue to enjoy the usual aspects of tax law practice in terms of technical accuracy, research and exercising and developing judgment on tax issues.

What You'll Do

  • Document Drafting & Review: Leverage AI agents to do an initial pass of reviewing fund formation documents such as LPAs, subscription agreements and side letters.

  • Due Diligence: Use AI tools to conduct rapid document reviews, identify key terms and tax provisions.

  • Fund Structuring & Execution: Integrate AI agents into workflow management across the full fund lifecycle to the extent feasible.

  • Collaboration with Tech: Work closely with the technology teams to continue to make the fund tax practice even more efficient using AI.

  • Traditional Tax Structuring, Research and Advisory: You will continue to do the tax structuring, relevant research and advisory that you would do in a law firm, with the level of technical accuracy and excellence expected at any BigLaw firm.

What We're Looking For

Core Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD); active bar admission in New York.

  • 3–6 years of tax experience at a top law firm, with meaningful exposure to private investment funds (private equity, venture, credit and/or hedge).

  • Strong technical foundation in Subchapters K and C; familiarity with UBTI, ECI, and fund structuring for diverse investor bases. Knowledge of Subchapter S and real estate tax planning a plus.

  • High Interest in building AI-assisted workflows.

  • High Interest in building a new law firm model, a great “roll-up the sleeves” attitude, agility in performing simple tasks to doing the hard core research on tough tax issues and not expecting AI to replace a lawyer’s judgment.

  • High comfort with ambiguity, a necessary attribute when helping build a truly new law firm model powered by revolutionary technology

What success looks like

  • 30 Days: Learn firm AI platforms and tech teams supporting such platforms; Integrate with existing tax team and fund working groups on live deals; Assist in maintaining tax intake risk management for the firm.

  • 60 Days: Master work flow integration with existing tax team and funds group. Independently manage discrete components of live matters.

  • 90 Days: Take the lead in interfacing with tech teams to help improve AI-augmented workstreams for firm models and eventually, live workstreams.
