About this job

A little about us

incident.io is the AI software reliability platform trusted by engineering teams at Notion, Linear, Ramp and 2,000+ companies who can't afford downtime.

The stakes are real, the talent is insane, and somehow it's a genuinely lovely place to work. We all pull our weight, go the extra mile, and put in the bit of magic most companies don't have time for, all while having fun and never taking ourselves too seriously.

We've raised $100+ million from Index Ventures, Insight Partners, and Point Nine, and we're growing fast. There's never been a better time to join.

The role in one line

Be a trusted partner to our US teams, helping us close deals faster, navigate complex legal challenges, and build a legal function that scales with the business!

What that looks like day to day

The legal team partners with every team at incident.io, from Sales and Marketing to Engineering and Finance.

As the fifth member of our legal team, you'll join our existing US commercial counsel in San Francisco. Together, you'll help develop localized processes and shape a world-class legal function while enabling the business to scale at pace.

This role is ideal for a commercially minded lawyer with a strong background in SaaS commercial contracts and data protection who thrives on autonomy and high-impact work.

  • Trusted Advisor: Act as a strategic partner to our US GTM teams, providing pragmatic, high-velocity advice to manage risk and unblock complex commercial challenges.

  • Deal Lead: Own the drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide range of commercial contracts (primarily SaaS agreements), balancing robust legal safeguarding with the need for commercial momentum.

  • Privacy Specialist: Navigate US and international data protection and privacy issues, including negotiating DPAs and advising on associated business risks.

  • Function Builder: Partner with the legal team to create "self-serve" legal tools, standard forms, and US-specific templates that empower the business to move faster.

  • US Legal Expert: Serve as an internal subject matter expert on US legal nuances, including providing foundational guidance on US employment matters as we scale our local headcount.

Who you are

  • Licensed Attorney: You are a US licensed attorney, with relevant experience, ideally gained in-house at a fast-paced SaaS or startup environment.

  • Negotiation: You have excellent drafting and communication skills, with a proven ability to transform complex legal concepts into clear, actionable commercial advice.

  • Privacy: You are comfortable dealing with data protection and privacy issues and understand their impact on the sales cycle.

  • High Autonomy: You thrive when working independently, while remaining a proactive collaborator with the wider legal team.

  • Comfort in Ambiguity: You enjoy the "builder" phase of a company. You are comfortable navigating a degree of ambiguity and can pivot quickly when new information or priorities are introduced.

Supporting you

We work hard and we think life outside work matters just as much. Our benefits pack is built to support both.

  • Market-leading private medical insurance. The proper kind, so you're never weighing up your health against a bill.

  • Competitive PTO. Showing up at your best requires switching off, and we make sure you have time to do that.

  • First Friday of every month off. Yes, seriously.

  • Enhanced 401k. We put real money in, because future-you deserves better than an afterthought.

  • Meaningful equity. We're rapidly scaling, and everyone who helps shape the outcome should share in it.

  • Unlimited AI spend. For everyone, not just engineers. We're all-in on AI across the company, and we expect you to be too.

  • Generous parental leave. The early days with a new baby matter more than anything we're doing here, and we want you to be present for them.

  • Two budgets that have your back. $1000 to invest in your setup, $500 a year to invest in yourself.
