Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Communications Data Analyst through 11/20/2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

About the role
The Communications Data Analyst makes Chevron’s communications data reliable, accessible, and useful for decision-making.

You will use SQL to query and prepare data from our communications data lake, build and maintain dashboards, investigate data quality issues, and manage the taxonomy that supports consistent reporting across channels. You will help communicators understand the data available to them and turn their questions into reporting requirements and practical analysis.

Our IT and data engineering partners build and maintain the pipelines. You will work closely with them to define requirements, validate new data sources and fields, and resolve issues that affect reporting.

About the team
Corporate Affairs manages social, political, and reputational risks for Chevron and engages the workforce to advance the business. Within Global Communications, the AI, Data & Insights team brings together research, intelligence, measurement, and insights to help communicators set priorities, sharpen strategy, anticipate issues, and understand how their work contributes to Corporate Affairs objectives.

We ground communications strategy in a deeper understanding of audiences and issues, provide intelligence to help teams anticipate and navigate the broader public affairs environment, and use measurement and insights to assess where communications are making a difference. Working across owned, earned, paid, and internal communications, we help teams make informed decisions, evaluate effectiveness, and focus their efforts where they can have the greatest impact.

What you will do

  • Query and prepare data. Write SQL to pull, join, filter, and aggregate data from the data lake for recurring reports and ad hoc questions. Know where each source lives and how tables relate across owned, earned, paid, and internal channels.
  • Build dashboards and reports.Build and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and recurring reports in Power BI or Tableau that show performance against KPIs, using approved metric definitions. Document reporting calculations, source dependencies, and known data limitations.
  • Check data quality. Review data for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness before it reaches reporting. Investigate discrepancies, identify their cause, and coordinate resolution with channel owners, agency partners, and engineering teams.
  • Own the taxonomy workflow.Manage the operation and continuous improvement of the Chevron Taxonomy across owned, earned, paid, and internal communications. Develop and maintain classification, naming, and tracking standards through the agreed governance process. Oversee tracking code generation, validation, audits, and training, and coordinate cross-platform mapping and corrections with channel owners, agency partners, and data engineering teams.
  • Translate needs into requirements.Turn communicators’ reporting needs into clear requirements for IT and data engineering partners, then test new data sources and fields against those requirements once they are delivered.
  • Analyze communications performance. Identify and explain trends, anomalies, and changes in campaign and channel performance. Prepare analysis for campaign readouts and partner with research and measurement colleagues on deeper evaluation and impact assessment.
  • Help teams use data. Show communicators where to find data and how to use dashboards, so more questions get answered through self-service.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Data Analytics, Statistics, or a related field
  • 5+ years of analytics or business intelligence experience, including work with communications, marketing, or public affairs data
  • Proficiency in SQL, including joining multiple tables, filtering and aggregating data, and validating query results
  • Experience working in a data lake or data warehouse: navigating schemas, finding the right tables, and understanding how fields, metrics, and dimensions connect
  • Experience managing content or campaign taxonomies, naming conventions, and tracking standards, including governance, implementation, and data audits
  • Hands-on experience with data from communications and marketing platforms such as Sprinklr, Meltwater, Google Analytics, and social media analytics tools
  • Proven ability to build dashboards and recurring reports in Power BI or Tableau
  • Strong attention to data quality, with a habit of checking numbers and chasing down discrepancies
  • Ability to explain data issues to non-technical colleagues and describe reporting needs clearly to technical teams
  • Advanced Excel skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience querying data in Databricks, Azure Synapse, or a similar platform
  • Familiarity with how ingestion tools such as Fivetran or Adverity feed reporting data
  • Experience with taxonomy or naming-convention management platforms
  • Experience working with data from internal communications platforms such as Staffbase or Viva Engage
  • Python or R for analysis
  • Use of AI-assisted tools for analysis, data checks, or documentation
