What You’ll Get to Do
Aluminum is critical to what we build, and you will be the person who owns it. As Director of Category Management - Aluminum Billet / Extrusions, you will set the sourcing strategy for one of our most important materials across multiple business lines, with a seat at the table & results you can measure.
This is more than a buying role. You will be the company’s recognized expert on a strategic commodity, shaping how we secure supply, manage price volatility & partner with the producers, extruders & fabricators who keep our customers’ projects on schedule.
You will lead a team, work side by side with business unit leaders & help build our supply chain function as we grow through our Supply Chain Center of Excellence & PMO.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the strategy. Build & execute multi-year extrusion & billet sourcing strategies that balance cost, supply continuity, quality, lead time & innovation.
- Lead the value chain. Negotiate contracts & run sourcing events with primary producers, secondary smelters & refiners (recycled billet), billet suppliers, extruders, fabricators & distributors.
- Stay ahead of the market. Use index-based, LME-linked pricing, hedging & supply risk monitoring to anticipate shifts in regional premiums, tariffs, energy, scrap & freight before they reach our costs.
- Build partnerships that perform. Own supplier relationship management, including scorecards & executive business reviews. Drive supplier development, dual-sourcing, extrusion capacity & regional footprint alignment.
- Lead & develop people. Coach the metals procurement team & build supply chain skills in partnership with HR.
- Partner with the business. Align aluminum demand, specifications & supply plans with business unit leaders, engineering & operations.
- Raise the standard. Develop standards, policies & governance, champion the tools that bring consistency & scale, and support the Source-to-Pay rollout with IT. Lead CoE & PMO programs & turn data into insight.
- Lead change. Drive a continuous improvement culture across business lines with a business-enabler mindset.
- Shape what’s next. Support ESG goals, such as recycled content & low-carbon aluminum disclosures, and contribute to M&A diligence & integration.
What We Are Looking For
- 10+ years in strategic sourcing or category management, including 5+ years in aluminum or a closely related commodity.
- Experience with aluminum extrusion & billet, gained at a producer, extruder or fabricator, or in a procurement role buying from them.
- Experience managing large-scale category spend & index-based or LME-linked pricing.
- Proven negotiation skills & experience with long-term supply agreements.
- Experience leading or developing procurement professionals.
- Experience with Source-to-Pay systems & supplier scorecarding.
- Strong stakeholder management & the ability to influence across multiple business lines.
- A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Nice to Have
- Background at an extruder, primary or secondary aluminum producer, billet caster or architectural aluminum fabricator.
- Background in architectural metals, storefront, curtainwall, fenestration or building products.
- Experience with hedging or commodity risk management.
- MBA or supply chain certification (CPSM, CSCP)
Position Pay Range
$180,000—$200,000 USD
