About this job

Job Description Summary

The Senior Field Services Staff Manager for Defense & Offshore is a strategic leadership position responsible for the total lifecycle performance of field service operations within high-stakes, mission-critical environments. You will serve as a key member of the Defense & Offshore leadership team, balancing operational execution with business growth. You are the architect of our service strategy—integrating technical excellence in Installation & Commissioning (I&C) with data-driven insights from our digital tools to drive customer loyalty, operational profitability, and long-term business strategy.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership: Act as a core member of the Defense & Offshore leadership team. Influence regional business strategy by providing actionable insights on field performance, identifying risk, and highlighting opportunities for service growth.
  • Operational Execution (I&C, Warranty & Interventions): Support the end-to-end execution of field service activities. Ensure seamless delivery of complex I&C projects, rapid response to warranty claims, and effective site interventions.
  • Cross Functional Stakeholder Management: Serve as the internal bridge between field operations, program management, regional leadership, and digital/IT teams. Synchronize maintenance strategies with shifting internal priorities, ensuring that field service execution is perfectly aligned with project milestones, contractual commitments, and resource availability while proactively navigating complex site-access and logistical constraints. Align field operations with contractual obligations and commercial milestones to ensure high customer satisfaction (NPS) and project profitability.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce safety protocols tailored to offshore/maritime environments, ensuring full compliance with both organizational EHS standards and site-specific safety mandates.
  • Resource & Workforce Management: Manage field service engineering staff, ensuring they are properly certified, equipped, and trained to operate in offshore and restricted defense environments.
  • Capacity Planning: Lead the S&OP process for the Field Service team, synchronizing technical resource availability with the sales pipeline. Balance short-term emergency dispatch needs against long-term I&C project schedules to maximize billable utilization.
  • Commercial & Tendering Excellence: Partner with the ITO (Inquiry to Order) and Sales teams to lead the tendering process for I&C proposals. Ensure technical scope, logistical complexities, and resource requirements are accurately captured and priced to protect margins while meeting customer technical expectations.
  • ServiceMax Champion & Digital Integration: Act as the primary subject matter expert and advocate for ServiceMax. Strive for 100% data accuracy for all installed base assets, manage case lifecycles, and optimize dispatch workflows to improve FSE utilization.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Experience: 12+ Years of service management experience in the Defense, Offshore, or Maritime sectors.
  • People Leadership: 6+ Years of demonstrated experience in leading teams of 50+ in remote or high-pressure environments.
  • Leadership Presence: 6+ Years experience operating as a key leader within a matrixed organization, capable of managing competing priorities across multiple functional departments (Service, Sales, Finance, Legal).
  • Operational Planning: 3+ Years Demonstrated experience in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) or resource capacity management within a service-intensive environment.
  • Technical Domain Expertise: 6+ Years Deep familiarity with marine systems, industrial power distribution, and/or electric propulsion architecture. You speak the language of marine engineers, shipyards, and offshore asset operators.
  • Mission-Critical Mindset: 3+ Years Experience working within heavily regulated environments (such as naval defense, offshore oil & gas, or heavy industrial sectors) where equipment failure is not an option and rapid response is mandatory.

Eligibility requirement

  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to synthesize complex project schedules and resource data into a coherent capacity plan that supports business growth targets
  • Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated history of collaborating with Sales/ITO teams to develop winning service proposals, including technical scoping, risk assessment, and resource planning.
  • Digital Proficiency: Strong expertise in ServiceMax or similar Field Service Management (FSM) tools; proven experience in managing Installed Base (IB) data integrity.
  • Operational Excellence: Deep understanding of remote/offshore site logistics, including travel, safety certifications, and site access protocols.
  • Communication: Ability to navigate complex customer hierarchies and technical requirements in the defense/government contracting space.
  • Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances required for sensitive Defense projects.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Prior people-management experience (direct reports, performance reviews, hiring, conflict mediation); you know how to bring out the best in people.
  • Proven track record leading field service engineers, projects, or cross-functional technical initiatives, with accountability for project/program execution (safety, schedule, quality, cost).
  • Sharp communication and consensus-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment on technical topics.
  • Experience with LEAN principles, daily management systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.
