Job Title:

Lead Infrastructure Engineer

Reporting To:

Global Infrastructure Engineering Manager

Work Schedule:

Hybrid – Buffalo, NY

The Infrastructure Engineering team leads the technical direction, lifecycle planning, standards, and project delivery across Active Directory, Windows Server, VMware virtualization, Citrix and virtual desktop services, storage, NAS, backup, disaster recovery, and associated infrastructure security and cyber-recovery capabilities.

The Lead Infrastructure Engineer provides senior technical leadership, architecture ownership, and delivery coordination within the team.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a people-manager position. The successful candidate ideally combines deep engineering capability in Active Directory, Citrix and Server technologies with broad infrastructure engineering judgement to set architecture direction, make complex technical decisions, guide work across a distributed team, and translate business demand into an executable roadmap and delivery plan. The role does not require one person to be the deepest subject matter expert in each and every platform; it requires the technical leadership to integrate domain expertise into a coherent Infrastructure Engineering service.

This hybrid role requires regular onsite presence at our corporate headquarters in East Aurora, New York, in accordance with company requirements.

To be considered for the Lead Infrastructure Engineer role, here’s what you’ll typically need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Eight (8) or more years of progressive enterprise infrastructure engineering experience in complex, global environments.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience across multiple infrastructure domains, including architecture decisions, design governance, project delivery, and technical mentoring.
  • Advanced Active Directory engineering experience, including global multi-domain or multi-forest environments, DNS, Group Policy, authentication protocols, domain controller lifecycle, security, and recovery.
  • Citrix engineering and architecture experience supporting enterprise virtual application and desktop environments.
  • Strong Windows Server engineering and architecture background, including operating system lifecycle, hardening, automation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong experience with VMware vSphere or comparable enterprise virtualization platforms, including availability, lifecycle, capacity, and recovery considerations.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise storage, NAS, backup, disaster recovery, and cyber-recovery practices, with the ability to lead cross-domain architecture and delivery discussions.
  • Experience designing secure infrastructure, privileged administration, tiered administration, and CIS-aligned hardening approaches.
  • Hands-on automation experience with PowerShell; experience with APIs, Ansible, Terraform, or similar automation and Infrastructure as Code practices is desirable.
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery, cyber recovery, or business continuity design.
  • Strong communication, documentation, stakeholder management, and structured problem-solving skills.

We would also prefer the Lead Infrastructure Engineer to have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix DaaS, Citrix ADC, virtual GPU workloads, or equivalent enterprise end-user computing technologies.
  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, data center migrations, OT infrastructure, or regulated and compliance-sensitive environments.
  • Experience working within ITIL, Agile, SAFe, or similar delivery practices.
  • Relevant Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, security, or cloud certifications.

As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you will:

  • Own the technical roadmap, reference architecture, engineering standards, and lifecycle strategy across Infrastructure Engineering platforms.
  • Set the technical direction for Active Directory, Windows Server, VMware, Citrix, privileged administration, and infrastructure resiliency capabilities.
  • Evaluate modernization options, architecture trade-offs, technical debt, security risk, capacity, supportability, and total operational impact.
  • Establish design reviews, architecture decision records, technical standards, and reusable engineering patterns.
  • Provide senior technical escalation support for complex, cross-platform issues and major incidents.
  • Coach engineers through design, troubleshooting, implementation, documentation, and transition to operations; reduce key-person dependency through practical knowledge transfer
  • Maintain strong hands-on engineering ownership of global Active Directory and related Windows infrastructure, including forests and domains, DNS, Group Policy, LDAP, Kerberos, replication, delegation, and domain controller lifecycle.
  • Design secure authentication, authorization, and privileged administration models that align with corporate security and compliance requirements.
  • Lead Active Directory modernization and optimization, technical debt reduction and recovery-readiness initiatives.
  • Define Windows Server engineering standards, operating system lifecycle plans, CIS-aligned hardening approaches, and remediation priorities.
  • Partner with Cyber Security and Infrastructure Operations on identity security controls, vulnerability remediation, audit evidence, and resilient management environments.
  • Serve as the Infrastructure Engineering technical authority for Citrix and virtual desktop/application services.
  • Lead the architecture, modernization, security, resilience, performance, and lifecycle management of Citrix environments.
  • Define technical patterns for new Citrix use cases, virtual desktop infrastructure, application delivery, graphics-enabled workloads, remote access, and end-user experience improvements.
  • Lead complex Citrix design and implementation work, including solution assessments, architecture reviews, capacity planning, resilience, documentation, and operational handoff.
  • Coordinate with business, application, security, network, and operations stakeholders to ensure Citrix solutions are secure, supportable, and aligned to business demand.
  • Provide architecture leadership across VMware and enterprise virtualization platforms, storage, NAS, backup, disaster recovery, and cyber-recovery services, including lifecycle planning, resilience, capacity, availability, and modernization.
  • Lead the technical integration of infrastructure services across Active Directory, Windows, Citrix, virtualization, storage, backup, networking, and recovery environments.
  • Support disaster recovery and cyber-resiliency design, recovery testing, recovery environments, data protection, and infrastructure continuity planning.
  • Guide server hosting, data center migration, M&A, and strategic infrastructure transformation work where multiple infrastructure domains are involved.
  • Work with specialized engineers on implementation while retaining accountability for cross-domain design, technical risk, and delivery quality.
  • Convert business demand, technical risk, lifecycle requirements, and security priorities into a clear multi-PI Infrastructure Engineering roadmap.
  • Lead technical planning for Program Increment work, including scope definition, sequencing, dependencies, effort assumptions, risk management, and capacity trade-offs.
  • Maintain the technical quality of Infrastructure Engineering work tracked in Azure DevOps: structure features and backlog items, clarify acceptance criteria, identify dependencies, review status, and drive resolution of blockers.
  • Coordinate engineering resources across Active Directory, Citrix, virtualization, Windows, Linux, storage, NAS, backup, disaster recovery, operations, and partner teams to deliver committed work.
  • Provide concise technical status, risks, decisions, and roadmap recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
