About this job
About the Team
OpenAI’s mission is to ensure the responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. In support of that mission, the SMB Marketing team helps small and medium-sized businesses understand and adopt ChatGPT Business and OpenAI’s B2B solutions. We build a deep understanding of business owners and teams, shape relevant product narratives, and drive awareness, adoption, and growth.
We take a data-driven approach to understand SMB audiences, uncover customer needs, and translate AI capabilities into practical business value. We partner closely with Growth, Product Marketing, Sales, Partnerships, Product, Research, Communications, and Design to deliver a cohesive customer experience across discovery, evaluation, purchase, adoption, and expansion.
About the Role
We are hiring a Portfolio Product Marketing Lead to define and scale OpenAI’s global audience marketing strategy for small and medium-sized businesses. This leader will own how business owners, decision-makers, and teams understand, evaluate, adopt, and grow with ChatGPT Business and OpenAI’s SMB B2B solutions.
This is a highly strategic and hands-on leadership role where you will shape clear, compelling narratives that show how AI helps SMBs solve everyday business challenges. You will build the content, customer stories, thought leadership, events, and integrated programs that drive ChatGPT Business subscriptions, team adoption, seat expansion, and long-term growth.
You will partner closely with Growth, Product Marketing, Sales, Partnerships, Product, Communications, Research, and Data Science to make OpenAI a trusted partner for SMBs adopting AI and turning it into measurable business value.
This role is ideally based in San Francisco, CA, with a hybrid schedule of three days per week in the office.
In This Role, You Will:
Own SMB audience strategy and positioning for ChatGPT Business and SMB B2B solutions, translating customer needs into differentiated messaging and clear reasons to adopt.
Lead thought leadership and content strategy, using practical education, demos, and customer stories to show how SMBs can put AI to work and achieve measurable results.
Develop go-to-market programs for priority SMB industries, equipping Sales, Partnerships, and Growth teams with tailored narratives, proof points, and enablement.
Partner with Growth and channel teams on integrated campaigns, lifecycle marketing, communities, and events that drive self-serve conversion, sales-assisted opportunities, retention, and expansion.
Partner with Product Marketing and Product teams to turn roadmap innovations into audience-relevant launches, customer education, and adoption programs.
Build and lead a high-performing team, establishing measurement frameworks to assess engagement, conversion, adoption, and revenue impact.
You Might Thrive in This Role If You:
Have 12+ years of experience in B2B marketing or go-to-market leadership, including building programs that drive SMB adoption and growth at a technology, SaaS, or AI company.
Understand how SMB owners and teams evaluate, buy, and adopt software—from resource constraints and proof of value to self-serve and sales-assisted buying journeys—and how AI can improve their everyday workflows.
Can translate complex technology into clear positioning, audience narratives, and thought leadership that resonate across SMB segments.
Have built content and enablement programs spanning customer education, practical use cases, customer stories, webinars, workshops, and community engagement.
Are highly analytical, with experience connecting marketing investments to conversion, adoption, retention, expansion, and revenue outcomes.
Are a strong people leader who can attract top talent, set a high quality bar, and build new functions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
