About this job
Who We Are
Serval is the AI-native enterprise service management platform that automates the work legacy IT service management tools only track. Our AI agents build the automations that power employee support, then resolve requests against them instantly—helping teams across IT, HR, finance, legal, and beyond automate work within one governed platform.
Companies including Fox, Live Nation, Notion, Ramp, and Lucid Motors run on Serval. Headquartered in San Francisco, we’ve raised $277 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, Redpoint Ventures, First Round, General Catalyst, and Elad Gil, most recently a $150 million Series C at a $3 billion valuation.
We’re building a team that moves quickly, takes ownership, and wants to make a meaningful impact on how the world’s largest organizations work. Come help us build what’s next for enterprise service management.
The Mission
Every one of those dollars gets invoiced, collected and recognized, and today too much of that runs by hand: revenue entries posted manually, ARR reconciled off a spreadsheet export, collections chased from an inbox.
The role has three parts:
Revenue accounting. Turn our contracts into accurate, documented, audit-ready revenue, and get the answer right before the close, not after.
Billing and collections. Own quote-to-cash from signed contract to cash in the bank, so we collect faster as volume and contract complexity grow.
Systems design. Design and build the automated, agent-driven workflows that read our contracts, generate invoices and draft revenue entries, with people reviewing the judgment calls. This is design work, not just using tools someone else built.
You'll report to Francisco Meyo, VP, Controller, and work closely with our Head of Finance, RevOps, Sales, Legal, Engineering, our accounting systems lead, and our auditors once we engage them.
This is a build role. Our contracts are getting more interesting, not less: multi-year ramps, Fortune 500 paper, and usage-based pricing running side by side with platform fees starting this quarter. You will design how we handle all of it, not inherit a process someone else wrote.
Who you are
Technically strong. You came up through Big 4 audit or advisory, and you can defend a revenue position to an engagement team without flinching.
Precise about revenue. You keep bookings, billings, ARR, revenue and cash distinct, and you can explain a revenue conclusion to a sales leader in two sentences.
Upstream, not after the fact. You would rather shape a non-standard term before the contract is signed than clean it up in the GL three months later.
Cash-obsessed. You care how fast we turn invoices into cash, measured as days sales outstanding (DSO), and you treat it as a number you own. An overdue invoice bothers you until it is paid or you know exactly why it isn't.
A builder. You have built apps, scripts or automations, or you are eager to build agentic workflows. No coding background required, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment. Serval runs on Serval, and so will you.
High ownership, high slope. You see the gap, you propose the fix, you ship it. No task is too small, including the payroll and benefits work nobody else owns yet.
What you'll do
Own revenue accounting
Own the revenue inputs to the monthly, quarterly and year-end close: revenue entries, the revenue waterfall, deferred and unbilled rollforwards, and revenue flux review.
Review new and amended contracts: identify performance obligations, determine transaction price, allocate standalone selling price, and reconcile ARR, billings and revenue so they tie every close.
Own the accounting for consideration payable to customers, including service credits and fees contingent on automation outcomes, and for capitalized commissions under ASC 340-40.
Write and maintain our revenue recognition policy as we add multi-year ramps and usage-based pricing, and draft decision-ready memos on the hard calls.
Own billing and collections
Turn signed contracts into accurate, on-time invoices across platform fees, ramped deals and usage-based consumption, including customer PO, portal and vendor-onboarding requirements.
Own the AR aging, dunning cadence and escalation path, partner with Sales and Deployment when a payment stalls, and report DSO and cash forecasts weekly.
Stand up usage billing with Engineering and RevOps: what the meter measures, how it reconciles to invoices, and how disputes get resolved. First usage customer lands this quarter; material volume in Q4.
Review non-standard billing and payment terms with RevOps and Legal before signature, and say what each will cost in cash timing or revenue treatment.
Design the systems
Design and build the agentic workflow that takes in signed contracts, extracts pricing and non-standard terms, generates invoices and drafts revenue entries for review.
Define it end to end: where agents do the work, where a person reviews, the controls and audit trail, and the exception path.
Partner with our accounting systems lead on the data flow from Salesforce and the usage meter into billing and Rillet, our ERP.
Be audit-ready
Document quote-to-cash and its key controls, including the controls around our agentic workflows.
Own the revenue and AR side of our first audit: PBC schedules, walkthroughs and responses to technical questions. Own how billing and revenue run in Rillet, our ERP.
Cover payroll and benefits operations
Own the manual pieces of payroll and benefits: reconciliations, enrollment changes, provider invoices and journal entries, with People Ops and our payroll provider, and automate them over time.
What you'll need
Big 4 foundation: assurance or accounting advisory at a Big 4 firm, Senior to Senior Manager level, with 5 to 8 years of total experience. We're open to candidates coming directly from Big 4; in-house experience is a plus.
Credentials: active CPA license.
ASC 606 in practice: deep, hands-on ASC 606 experience from audit or in-house, ideally with multi-year, ramped or usage-based contracts. Owning revenue in industry is a plus, not a requirement.
Billing and collections: has owned billing, collections and AR for enterprise customers, or reviewed them as an auditor: billing accuracy, cutoff, collectability and the allowance for doubtful accounts.
Builder mindset (required): you have built apps, scripts or automations, or are eager to build agentic workflows. Advanced Excel or Sheets and working knowledge of SQL, Python or AI tools will help you start fast.
Systems thinking: you can design a workflow end to end, including the data, controls and exception handling, not just automate one task.
Memos that hold up: you have written technical memos auditors accepted, or reviewed them as an auditor.
Nice to have
Owned revenue recognition at a high-growth SaaS, AI or infrastructure company.
Usage or consumption billing at scale, with tools such as Stripe Billing, Metronome, Orb or Maxio.
Experience with Rillet or another modern ERP or revenue system.
Apps, agents or automations you built that other people use.
Consideration payable to customers, SSP analysis or ASC 340-40 commissions.
First audit, SOX or IPO readiness experience.
Exposure to Serval, as a customer, user or builder.
What We Offer
Impact: Be a key player in shaping the success of our product and company.
Growth: Build a fundamentally new AI product offering with the support of our experienced team and investors. Grow rapidly with the company.
Culture: Join a culture that values innovation, ownership, accountability, and fun.
