We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Clinical Research Scientist to lead the strategy and execution of clinical research supporting the development and validation of emerging therapeutic technologies. This role will have direct responsibility for designing and leading human-subjects research studies, developing study protocols and analysis plans, supporting participant-facing study execution, managing external research collaborations, analyzing clinical and physiological data, and communicating scientific findings through grants, publications, and conference presentations.

The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative scientist who is equally comfortable developing research strategy and working directly with study participants, investigators, research sites, Clinical Affairs, Engineering, and other cross-functional partners. This individual will play a critical role in translating clinical research findings into meaningful product insights, clinical evidence, and future research opportunities.

This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Pleasanton, CA, with a minimum of three days onsite per week, or more depending on business needs. Candidates currently outside the Bay Area who are willing to relocate are encouraged to apply. Travel is expected to be approximately 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead multiple prospective human-subjects clinical research studies in parallel, from study concept and protocol development through execution, analysis, and reporting
  • Develop research strategies, study plans, protocols, case report forms, statistical analysis plans, and other scientific documentation that produce meaningful and operationally feasible data
  • Provide hands-on support for participant-facing research activities, including study procedures, physiological data collection, protocol adherence, participant safety, and issue resolution
  • Prepare and support IRB, IDE, ethics committee, and other research-related regulatory submissions as applicable
  • Lead the analysis and interpretation of clinical and physiological data sets
  • Collaborate with Engineering and data-science partners to develop analytical methods and, when appropriate, proof-of-concept algorithms that generate clinically meaningful insights
  • Partner with Engineering and research teams to ensure the reliable collection, quality, and interpretation of physiological and clinical data
  • Partner closely with Clinical Affairs, Engineering, Product, Regulatory, and other cross-functional teams to support research and product-development priorities
  • Develop and manage partnerships and collaborations with investigators, research sites, subject matter experts, and other external research partners
  • Provide training, technical guidance, and ongoing support to investigators, research sites, and external research partners
  • Write and submit grant reports, white papers, abstracts, manuscripts, and peer-reviewed publications
  • Present research findings at scientific and medical conferences
  • Translate research findings into product specifications, user requirements, clinical strategies, development priorities, and patent applications
  • Identify opportunities to expand the clinical research program through feasibility studies, external collaborations, publications, and grant applications
  • Maintain accurate study documentation and ensure research activities are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice standards, company procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Manage multiple research projects, priorities, timelines, and stakeholders within a collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • Maintain a high level of ownership, accountability, scientific rigor, and hands-on involvement throughout study planning, execution, analysis, and reporting

Requirements

  • PhD in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, biomedical sciences, clinical research, or a closely related scientific field
  • 3+ years of experience leading prospective human-subjects clinical research projects, preferably within the medical device industry
  • Hands-on experience designing research studies and developing protocols, case report forms, analysis plans, and scientific documentation
  • Experience supporting participant-facing study execution, clinical or physiological data collection, protocol adherence, and research-related issue resolution
  • Experience preparing or supporting IRB, IDE, ethics committee, or other human-subjects research submissions
  • Strong first-author publication and/or grant-writing record demonstrating excellent scientific and technical writing ability
  • Proficiency with scientific data-analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, or a comparable platform
  • Strong data-analysis skills ranging from interpreting small exploratory data sets to analyzing large and complex data sets
  • Experience managing collaborations with investigators, subject matter experts, research sites, or external research partners
  • Working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice standards and applicable human-subjects research requirements
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear scientific, technical, and regulatory documentation
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Enthusiasm for providing hands-on support throughout the planning and execution of clinical research studies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, timelines, and stakeholders within a complex and rapidly changing environment
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, organization, and scientific integrity
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% as business needs require

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing NIH-funded clinical trials or contributing to successful grant applications
  • Experience supporting research and development within an FDA-regulated medical device product-development environment
  • Experience with wearable technologies, neuromodulation, sleep medicine, neuroscience, or neurological disorders
  • Experience with physiological-signal analysis or proof-of-concept algorithm development
  • Experience analyzing IMU, PPG, EMG, EEG, or other physiological and biosensor data
