About this job
Job Description
This role is offered as hybrid in Seattle, WA. Candidates must be available to work in office at the Nordstrom corporate headquarters a minimum of 4 days/week to be considered for this position.
The role
Discovery is where we show our fashion authority and where customers fall for the brand. It's everything a customer experiences before checkout: homepage, search, browse, and product pages. We're hiring a Senior Manager of Product Management to own that experience across Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack.
You'll lead a team of product managers covering discovery experience, search and agentic shopping, search and browse foundations, digital optimization, and experimentation. You'll balance shipping delight with the technical depth to move us toward a more agentic shopping experience, working with internal teams and third-party technology partners.
What you'll do
- Set the vision and roadmap: Define the multi-year strategy for discovery across homepage, PDP, search, and browse, for both Nordstrom and Rack.
- Tell the story behind the roadmap: Make the case for where discovery is headed in a way that brings partners and senior leaders along.
- Build the AI-native experience: We have intelligence into every step of the journey, such as search summaries, product-page prompts, and virtual try-on, rather than bolting on a standalone chatbot.
- Own personalization and relevance: Define what "relevant" means. Use deep catalog and customer understanding to show customers the right thing, for both Nordstrom and Rack.
- Design for feeling, not just function: Partner with Creative, Design, and Research on end-to-end journeys that carry the brand, not just a conversion funnel.
- Tell the brand story: Use editorial voice, content, and imagery to turn browsing into a story customers want to follow, from homepage to product page.
- Judge ML/AI quality: Coach the team on how to set evaluation approaches (offline metrics, human review, A/B tests) and decide when a model or AI feature is ready for customers, including ones built by third-party providers.
- Partner across the business: Work with Engineering, Data Science, Design, Digital Merchandising, Marketing, and Stores.
- Lead and grow the team: Coach PMs, set a high bar for craft, and help the team adopt new ways of working.
- Measure what matters: Define KPIs, including conversion, engagement, and customer satisfaction, and iterate quickly.
How we work
- We start with the customer. Research and real behavior drive decisions.
- We care about taste. Details, polish, and the feel of the experience matter.
- We use AI to build products that solve hard, complex customer problems: in research, prototyping, specs, development, and analysis.
- We stay ahead of the curve. We track how technology and shopping behavior are changing, and we move early when it matters to our customers.
- We test, learn, and ship, with a strong point of view and a willingness to change it when the data says so.
- We lead change deliberately. You'll help your team adapt as tools and workflows evolve.
- We build a culture of growth. We learn fast, celebrate wins, and have fun doing work we're proud of.
You own this if you have
Discovery and AI depth
- Hands-on experience in search, recommendations, and/or conversational AI, such as query understanding, retrieval, ranking, and personalization, and LLM-powered or agentic experiences
- Ability to assess ML/AI relevance: you can evaluate ranking, retrieval, and LLM output, and tell a great model from a good demo
- Experience working with third-party technology providers to ship AI-powered experiences
- Fluency in A/B testing and experimentation
- Enough technical grounding to effectively partner with Data Science and Engineering
Design and customer sense
- Strong UX instincts and a real eye for taste
- Track record of turning customer insight into clear product requirements with design and research
- A customer-first mindset, with examples of tradeoffs made on their behalf
Modern product craft
- Active use of AI tools in your own product work, with examples of what changed
- Experience leading teams through change: new tools, processes, and ways of working
Leadership and experience
- 8+ years in product management, 3+ years managing PMs, ideally in tech or ecommerce
- Ability to inspire and develop strong teams
- Proven results in a fast-paced, innovative environment
- Strong written and verbal communication, including with senior leaders
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Science, or related experience
