About this job
We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to shape how our dexterous manipulation systems are built at scale. These are small, highly integrated electromechanical assemblies with many degrees of freedom, tight tolerances and dense packaging of miniature actuators, transmissions, sensors and wiring. You will own manufacturing for this product end to end, partnering with design engineering from early concept. You will define the manufacturing line, develop the equipment technologies and processes it needs, and own the roadmap through deployment of robust, high-volume automated lines.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead DFM, DFA and design-for-test reviews from initial concept, shaping product architecture for automated assembly.
- Ideate and deliver manufacturing systems from proof of concept to automation at scale, defining assembly sequence, station design, line balancing, and layout.
- Lead the development of new equipment technologies and bring a wide range of precision assembly methods to process maturity, including fastening, force-controlled insertion, dispensing, fixturing and vision-guided automation, under ESD-safe and contamination-controlled conditions.
- Co-define and deploy quality controls (in-process inspection, end-of-line test, calibration and traceability) with design, test and quality engineering.
- Find and evaluate equipment suppliers, and retire the highest-risk processes early through concept studies, experiments, feasibility trials and proof-of-concept builds. Own equipment specification, buy-off and start of production.
- Own line performance through production handoff, proving capability through metrics such as first-pass yield, rate and cost.
- Mentor engineers and set team standards for DFM/DFA reviews, process development and line design.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 6+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in automated production environments
- Experience developing assembly processes for small, precision electromechanical assemblies or relevant technologies
- Experience leading DFM/DFA work that changed product design toward a more scalable, manufacturable architecture
- Experience designing automated assembly lines, including station layout, line balancing and cycle-time analysis
- Experience working with equipment suppliers from concept and quoting through buy-off and start of production
- Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD for part, assembly, fixture and layout work
- Experience with automation equipment such as robots, PLC-controlled stations, automated screwdriving, presses, dispensing systems or vision systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience scaling an automated assembly line from proof of concept or pilot to high-volume production
- Experience with precision and micro-assembly: miniature fasteners, bearing and shaft press fits, adhesive dispensing and UV or thermal curing, laser welding, soldering, flex-circuit and connector assembly
- Experience assembling miniature actuators, gear trains, compact multi-axis transmissions or linkage mechanisms
- Experience with vision-guided robotic assembly and force-controlled insertion
- Experience defining end-of-line functional test and calibration for multi-axis mechanisms or force, torque and position sensors
- Experience with ESD control, cleanroom or contamination-controlled assembly, and production traceability systems
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis for small assemblies
- Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE), PFMEA and process capability studies
- Experience launching high-volume precision electromechanical products in consumer electronics, medical devices, robotics or similar industries
