About this job

Business Unit:

Cubic Defense

Company Details:

A Mechanical Analyst applies in-depth professional knowledge and company objectives to tackle complex engineering challenges. The role handles projects or assignments requiring advanced technical evaluations, often determining methods and procedures for new work. The position leverages cross-disciplinary insights and exercises judgment in adapting or developing sophisticated techniques. The role networks with key contacts outside the immediate area of expertise, frequently advising others on complex mechanical issues.

Job Details:

Job Description:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and sustainment of advanced PolyStrata-based products and manufacturing solutions. This role serves as a key contributor throughout the product lifecycle, leading mechanical design activities from concept development through production implementation. The engineer will own mechanical designs, create detailed CAD models and drawings, support manufacturing process development, and collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams.

The position also supports product validation through mechanical analysis, simulation, testing, and failure investigations. While analysis activities remain an important component of the role, the primary focus is mechanical design ownership and execution. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, hands-on design capability, and the ability to support engineering decisions through analysis and testing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mechanical Design

  • Lead mechanical design and development efforts for PolyStrata modules and related hardware.
  • Generate and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, detailed component designs, and engineering drawings using SOLIDWORKS.
  • Design fixtures, tooling, manufacturing aids, and production support equipment.
  • Evaluate and implement design improvements to enhance manufacturability, performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Support product development activities from concept generation through production release.
  • Drive engineering documentation, drawing releases, and configuration management activities.

Analysis and Validation

  • Perform or coordinate mechanical analyses including structural, thermal, shock, and vibration assessments.
  • Utilize simulation tools such as ANSYS Mechanical to support design decisions and product qualification efforts.
  • Develop validation plans and correlate analytical predictions with physical test results.
  • Support environmental and reliability testing activities.
  • Document analysis methods, assumptions, and results to support engineering decisions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Recommend product and process improvements based on design reviews, testing, analysis, and manufacturing feedback.
  • Support AS9100 quality system requirements and engineering best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical product design and development.
  • Strong proficiency with SOLIDWORKS or comparable 3D CAD software.
  • Experience creating detailed engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Understanding of mechanical analysis methods including stress, thermal, vibration, and structural evaluation.
  • Familiarity with ANSYS Mechanical (or similar FEA software).
  • Experience supporting engineering designs through testing and validation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing products for manufacturing and production environments.
  • Experience supporting microwave, RF, electronics packaging, or microfabrication technologies.
  • Experience with PolyStrata technology or similar high-precision manufacturing processes.
  • Experience developing custom tooling, fixtures, and assembly processes.
  • Experience performing environmental qualification testing.
  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, satellite communications, or other high-reliability industries.
