About this job

Amazon is seeking exceptional talent to help develop the next generation of advanced robotics systems that will transform automation at Amazon's scale. We're building revolutionary robotic systems that combine cutting-edge AI, sophisticated control systems, and advanced electromechanical design to create adaptable automation solutions capable of working safely alongside humans in dynamic environments. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of robotics and automation at an unprecedented scale, working with world-class teams pushing the boundaries of what's possible in robotic manipulation, locomotion, and human-robot interaction.

We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, integrate, and launch novel robotics hardware, with a focus on actuators and robotic end effectors. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in actuator design and electromechanical integration, along with the ability to work well both independently and in a multidisciplinary team setting.

Key job responsibilities

  • Author functional requirements, design verification plans, and test procedures; perform trade studies to select architectures and allocate requirements to components
  • Lead the design, integration, and launch of robotic actuators and end effectors
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, firmware, and controls engineers on electromechanical integration
  • Build and test electromechanical subsystem prototypes and integrated systems
  • Support product releases to manufacturing and customer deployments
  • Coordinate with external partners (actuator suppliers, gear design houses, fabrication vendors) on design reviews and deliverables
  • Work efficiently to support rapid development schedules

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, and advanced assemblies
  • 7+ years of professional experience designing and integrating electromechanical systems, including actuators
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical efficiency, inertia, and compliance
  • Hands-on experience building prototypes and debugging subsystems
  • Understanding of component capacities and life estimation given highly variable operating trajectories

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • Experience with actuator designs for robotic end effectors
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls engineers
  • Experience launching a product at scale
  • Experience with DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Experience designing and debugging tooled (sheetmetal, cast, injection molded, etc.) components
  • Ability to support domestic and international travel as required by the program
  • Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and ECOs
  • Strong working knowledge of robotic actuators, including: motors, mechanical transmissions, bearings, encoders, lubrication, environmental seals, etc.
