This is a US-based remote position.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Java backend services using Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Deliver features across registration, KYC, login and MFA, device registration, account management, tax reporting, Fanatics ID integration, and watchlist monitoring.
- Build and maintain services that enforce regulatory and responsible gaming requirements, including geolocation, state and self-exclusion, prohibited persons, loss limits, and eligibility.
- Build integrations with third-party identity, verification, geolocation, and compliance providers, designing for failure, retries, and data integrity.
- Write scalable, well-tested services with strong unit and integration test coverage.
- Contribute to architecture and design discussions for APIs, event-driven systems, and data flows.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and take part in the weekly on-call rotation, contributing to runbooks and post-mortems.
- Partner with Product, Technical Program Management, Compliance, Support, and client engineering to turn business and regulatory requirements into technical solutions, and take part in sprint planning and agile delivery.
- Mentor junior to mid-level engineering teammates through code reviews, design feedback, and pairing.
- Follow engineering best practices (CI/CD, testing, observability, feature flagging, documentation) and improve reliability and maintainability by addressing technical debt.
Experience and Skills
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with Java.
- Strong experience building and supporting production Java backend services with Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Experience developing REST APIs and integrating distributed systems and data flows.
- Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
- Experience working in AWS or other cloud environments.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL data stores such as Postgres and MongoDB.
- Experience using AI tools or coding assistants to improve engineering productivity.
- Experience with identity and account systems (registration, authentication, MFA, OAuth2/OIDC), KYC, fraud, or payments is preferred.
- Experience with compliance-driven systems such as geolocation, responsible gaming, or regulatory data handling is preferred.
- Experience building highly available, regulated, or enterprise-scale applications is preferred.
- Experience with observability tooling (for example Datadog) and operating services on call is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting, ownership, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and with cross-functional partners.
