About this job

NVIDIA has been transforming computer graphics, PC gaming, and accelerated computing for more than 25 years. It’s a unique legacy of innovation that’s fueled by great technology—and amazing people. Today, we’re tapping into the unlimited potential of AI to define the next era of computing. An era in which our GPU acts as the brains of computers, robots, and self-driving cars that can understand the world. Doing what’s never been done before takes vision, innovation, and the world’s best talent. As an NVIDIAN, you’ll be immersed in a diverse, supportive environment where everyone is inspired to do their best work. Come join the team and see how you can make a lasting impact on the world.

Join NVIDIA, where we're powering the future of AI and computing! As a Senior Software Engineer on our release management platform team in Santa Clara, CA, you will own key modules of the platform that defines, validates, and ships firmware and software releases for our hardware systems. You'll work with hardworking and versatile professionals across release engineering, firmware, diagnostics, manufacturing, and partner teams.

What you'll be doing:

  • Own major modules of a full-stack release management platform that defines, validates and publishes firmware and software releases across multiple hardware platform families. Take features from design through production and on-call, and be accountable for the key technical decisions.
  • Design and extend a hierarchical domain model and lifecycle engine, including state machines, versioning, cloning and rebasing, and the promotion rules that control what ships to customers.
  • Build ingestion and reconciliation pipelines for firmware and software delivered by internal teams and external hardware partners. Ensure artifact metadata, checksums, package mapping and storage locations are correct before a release is promoted.
  • Own and improve a layered validation and gating model: automated data-integrity checks, CI-driven integration tests and system-level validation. Turn recurring failures into upstream data fixes and clearer per-release reporting.
  • Enforce a strict separation between internal authoring data and sanitized, customer-facing output.
  • Design and maintain versioned REST APIs and machine-readable release manifests consumed by manufacturing, provisioning, diagnostics, QA and customer-release pipelines, keeping them backward compatible as legacy consumers migrate. Enforce platform standards for SSO/authentication, RBAC, audit logging and observability.
  • Contribute to a React and TypeScript authoring UI, especially data-heavy tables, bulk edits, diff views and real-time status updates.
  • Drive onboarding of new hardware platforms and releases: naming schemes, release-template authoring, validation rules, notifications, and documented handoffs with adjacent engineering teams.
  • Act as technical lead within a regular release-train cadence: write design docs and ADRs, review merge requests, set goals for the engineers working on your module, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Partner with program managers, release managers, firmware, diagnostics and manufacturing teams to align on roadmaps, capacity, cross-team interfaces and operational ownership.
  • Raise reliability: safe schema migrations, incident triage, runbooks, support rotations, and the move toward higher availability (Kubernetes, database failover, cache/queue HA).
  • Build production-quality Python services (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, PostgreSQL) and async workflows (Celery, Redis), with a focus on performance (caching, query and worker tuning) and data integrity. Use AI-assisted engineering tools to move faster, with normal review in the loop.

What we need to see:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience. 12+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
  • Track record of leading a complete module or project from design through production.
  • Strong Python backend skills (FastAPI or similar), with production experience in PostgreSQL, relational data modeling, ORMs (SQLAlchemy or similar) and schema migrations.
  • Working knowledge of a modern frontend stack (React and TypeScript), with comfort in data-heavy UIs.
  • A track record of building state machines, workflow/lifecycle systems, or rule-driven validation engines.
  • Hands-on CI/CD experience (Jenkins, GitLab CI or similar), binary artifact repositories, and asynchronous/background job systems (Celery, Redis or similar).
  • Solid REST API design, including versioning, backward compatibility and interfaces built for automation.
  • Proficiency with Linux, containers and running stateful production services, including performance tuning, on-call and incident response.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence across partner teams, mentor engineers and own the decisions crucial to a project's success.
  • Clear written and verbal communication: you can turn ambiguous release and process requirements into precise technical designs.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Experience architecting large-scale release engineering or configuration management platforms.
  • Background in event-driven architectures, microservices, or workflow orchestration engines. Familiarity with regulated environments, ensuring audit trails and customer-facing sanitized exports.
  • Knowledge of hardware/firmware release flows and board/SKU management.
  • Expertise in integrating AI-assisted authoring, structured data extraction, or natural-language interfaces into engineering tools.
  • Knowledge of server firmware and update packaging (BMC/BIOS, industry-standard firmware package formats, firmware update flows). Experience integrating external hardware-partner deliveries into an internal release or validation process.
