About this job

Application close date:

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin’s mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.

About the Role

This role is part of Enterprise Engineering (EE), supporting Blue Origin’s mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design. We are looking for a skilled, motivated software engineer to join a small team that builds the applications, integrations, and automations Blue Origin engineers rely on every day, spanning PLM, CAD, engineering analysis and high-performance computing, requirements management, and AI-enabled workflows. You will work directly with the engineers who use your software, find where they are losing time to manual processes and spreadsheets, and ship tools that make them faster. This is a hands-on role with real ownership: you will take features from the first conversation with a user through to production, and keep them running.

We value engineers who pair strong technical judgment with genuine empathy for their users. You should be comfortable bringing a clear, data-backed point of view, challenging decisions respectfully when you disagree, and committing fully once the team decides. We also look for engineers who are curious and pragmatic about AI: using it to build and test faster, and verifying what it produces.

Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and own internal applications, services, and integrations end to end, from requirements and design through deployment, support, and iteration.
  • Partner directly with engineers, operations, and program teams to understand their workflows, identify manual or spreadsheet-driven processes, and replace them with reliable software.
  • Develop integrations and automation across the engineering tool ecosystem, including PLM (e.g., Windchill), CAD (e.g., Creo, NX), requirements management (e.g., Jama), analysis, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Build APIs, data pipelines, and data models that hold up as upstream tools and schemas change.
  • Build intuitive web-based interfaces that make complex engineering data and workflows easy to use.
  • Integrate AI capabilities (e.g., LLM-based assistants, agents, and retrieval) into team products where they add value, with testing in place to verify the results.
  • Write well-tested, maintainable code and contribute to code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and team engineering standards.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions and help prioritize the team’s backlog by weighing user impact against effort.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in computer science, information science, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of hands-on software development experience with production systems.
  • Proficiency in at least one of: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, Java, or Rust.
  • Experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs.
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL, including schema design and migrations.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), containerization (Docker), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of version control (Git), automated testing, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience working directly with end users or stakeholders to turn loosely defined problems into shipped software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-software audiences.

Desired:

  • Background in systems engineering (e.g., requirements decomposition, interface definition, verification and validation, or MBSE), or experience building software that supports systems engineering work.
  • Experience building internal tools with measurable adoption or time savings.
  • Experience with typed data access patterns that keep application code in sync with database schemas (e.g., ORMs, query code generation).
  • Familiarity with engineering tools and data: PLM, CAD, CAE/simulation, requirements management, or manufacturing systems.
  • Hands-on experience building applications with LLMs, including prompt design, harness development, agents or retrieval, and evaluating output quality.
  • Experience supporting hardware engineering or manufacturing organizations, ideally in aerospace.
