About this job

Alexa is a strategic investment for Amazon, and we're building AI-powered agentic shopping experiences that help millions of customers save time and money every day. The Alexa Shopping team is bringing the full power of Amazon.com to conversational and chat interfaces, reimagining how customers discover products, manage their lists, buy everyday essentials and groceries, and make confident purchase decisions through voice, touch, and generative AI.

This is a 0→1 opportunity. We're looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a high-performing engineering team that owns how Alexa Shopping builds software: an AI-native development platform that takes a customer experience from idea to production and keeps improving it after launch. The role spans three connected areas. The first is developer experience, with agentic tooling that carries engineers from requirements through design, build, test, and release. The second is quality intelligence, a framework that defines and enforces the quality bar for everything Alexa Shopping ships. The third is an AI-enabled reinforcement loop that turns live production signals into detected defects, drafted fixes, and regression gates. You'll make the foundational architectural calls and set the technical direction the rest of the org builds against.

The scope is horizontal by design. Rather than owning one customer experience, you'll own the capability all of them depend on — which means your decisions compound across the entire org. Success looks like teams shipping new experiences in half the time with fewer defects reaching customers. AI does the work at each step of the lifecycle, and engineers spend their judgment where it matters most.

You'll work at the intersection of agentic systems, machine learning, developer productivity, and e-commerce, partnering with engineers, applied scientists, and product leaders across Alexa and Amazon. If you've built something from the ground up before and want to change how software gets built at Amazon scale, this is that role.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
