About this job

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion

AWS PrivateLink carries private connectivity for roughly 200+ AWS services and third-party providers, without traffic crossing the public internet. For many customers it sits on their critical availability path, and for those whose policies prohibit public egress it is the only route.

We are hiring a Senior SDE to build the next generation of PrivateLink: a control plane engineered for 20x our current tens of thousands of TPS, a data plane to match, and the product vision behind both.

The goal is private connectivity that keeps pace with AI. Inference platforms, agentic systems, and ML pipelines now provision and reconcile connectivity continuously, at machine speed, and move far more data over it. The limits in our way are structural, not numbers we can raise. The read path, the tenant isolation model, the provisioning architecture, and how bandwidth scales with demand are all open decisions, and you will make several of them.

We have built real agentic tooling for migration, test generation, and operational analysis. You will use it and extend it.

Key job responsibilities

  • Shape the product vision for private connectivity in AI-native environments, working directly with AWS service teams and large external partners on what they need from us next.
  • Own the architecture and delivery of core components of the next generation of PrivateLink, across both the control plane and the data plane, targeting 20x current scale.
  • Make the foundational design decisions that are still open, and bring AWS service teams and senior engineers along with them.
  • Build for multi-tenant isolation and fairness, and scale capacity with demand rather than manual intervention, so one customer's growth never becomes another customer's latency.
  • Execute against live production traffic with no maintenance window, operate what you build, and extend the team's agentic tooling for migration, test generation, and operational analysis.

About the team

The AWS PrivateLink team builds and operates the technology that enables customers to securely access AWS services, third-party applications, and their own services over the Amazon VPC network—without exposing traffic to the public internet. As a Sr. SDE on this team, you'll design and scale highly available, low-latency networking infrastructure that powers private connectivity for millions of endpoints worldwide. You'll tackle complex distributed systems challenges, drive architectural decisions, and mentor engineers—all while helping customers simplify their network security posture at cloud scale.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
